Yes if you can't putt a longer driver doesn't make a hoot of difference. However give the guy who can't putt 30 yards shorter an approach from the guy that can, the chances are he's putting from 6 feet as opposed to 15 feet.

Yes, approach shots are just as important as the putts and the shorter your approach shot is, the greater is the chance of getting a short putt.

When watching golf on TV, and compare it to WGT, I'd say that it is a bit too easy for us from the tee here. Specially in hard wind. We just pull it to 100% and hit somewhere close to the ding and hit the fairway. Real tour players have around 55-60%  driving accuracy but GIR is higher, maybe 65%. I think that among the top players here, with the new era drivers, driving accuracy is close to 90% while GIR is 80-85%.

I think that the biggest problem with WGT is that it is almost no difference in terms of difficulty to hit 100% strength instead of 90%. There should be a risk involved if you want to go for those extra 5 yards.

Exactly, in some situations the new driver is going to allow a player to play 1 club shorter to the green than someone with an R11.  Not often granted but where the R11 guy might hit a choked PW or 9 iron the R1 player may be able to hit a full 56 wedge or PW and have a better chance of getting close.

I'm all for the best clubs hitting longer or being more precise, that's the whole point of them but making it more forgiving and giving it a slower meter as well?   Risk/reward WGT, otherwise it's boring.   And boring doesn't keep people coming back day after day.

That is a great idea, I'd never considered that.  In real life I very rarely hit a drive as hard as I could, the result was almost always a disaster.

How about as you draw the power meter back the last half inch is red, go into that and the forgiveness drops to half a dot or so.  Clubs could be shown with 2 distances, normal and overdrive.  Use overdrive at your own risk.

    Risk/reward again.

That would be a great idea for all clubs.  I now "vaguely" and I mean vaguely so could be wrong remember the old Sega Mega Drive used to do that, and so not new technology?

Just on the subject of actually using a club that I think it would be an excellent idea to present to WGT as a product consideration.  Maybe starts go amber then red above 90% or some where  around there.  Definitely would add interest and fun in my book!

    Good one!

How it is and is quite simple really.

Player 1 uses Rap driver hits 265.

    Player 2 uses R1 driver hits 310.

Both players hit there 2nd shot to 15ft.

Player 1 is a good putter (makes his putt)

Player 2 is not a good putter (misses his putt)

(Overall) a few yards of the tee is not going to make much of difference if you cant putt to save your life.

In this you say it all. The real difference between average and good players is their putting

Exactly, the best recipe for a good putt is a good approach. Your One Putt average will always follow your Average Distance to Pin number.
