I know we're getting Merion in a few months. Just wondering whether or not anybody has any news at all on whether WGT are planning on releasing a second course this year for full stroke play, whether or not that is or isn't in conjunction with the Open.

I would say that if we're getting Muirfield, it will be announced in conjunction with next month's update. If there's no news on it then, we probably won't be getting it. If not, I do hope that WGT have something else up their sleeve because a second successive year with only one new HD stroke play course would be very disappointing to say the least.

I think more than that...I think it will cause a huge uproar and outcry of anger if we go a second year and only only get one course...imo

I wouldn't be too disappointed if we didn't get Muirfield with the Open, but not to get another course from the PGA Tour or such like would be disappointing. Heck, I'd love to see something like Wolf Creek transferred into full stroke play if the licensing with the Open doesn't work out.

Just as a side note, I'm sure we were supposed to be getting a TruGolf course a few months ago as well as it was in the "Upcoming product releases" section but it now seems to have disappeared from the roadmap entirely.

I agree I would love to see Wolf Creek,or even Lake Tahoe,,Edgewood, cause of the beauty it beholds..it would be nice if either one of these courses could become full stroke play events/courses..txs ED

I really thought we might get Harbour Town after the CTTH that they put up.  That would be great if we could get that tract.  Not sure we will get anymore British Open courses since it seems they expect so much money for the use of their course.

I tend to agree that the Open courses may not be a part of the WGT plan (I hope I am wrong). Partially as many of the Open courses are privately owned, the members would have to agree and many members at a prestigious club simply do not want to "commonize" their course. Also the distance makes negotiations harder and more costly. But like I said, I hope that I am wrong

I think you are spot on Alanti.

I even believe that the hold up with the full Pebble Beach was about the same thing.  We should get Merion this year and Pinehurst next year from the USGA tie in.  I will be shocked if we get the British Open courses in the future.  The clubs just seem to be asking to much for their share.   For those who don't understand, WGT has an agreement with the R&A and USGA to photo and list their championships each year, however they also have to reach an agreement with the course which in some cases they have been unable to do, hence no Open course last year.

I think that WGT should move to the PGA courses and try to get one of the British Open courses every 5 years or so.  Having played in Scotland a few times, I will say that while I love links golf, the courses on WGT tend to play a lot alike.  I'm not a huge fan of having 5 links courses on the site, I would rather have 2 or 3 of these and bring in some of the variety of the PGA courses with the US Open courses.

WGT will do what is best for them in the long run but it never hurts to give them your opinion.

Personally, even as a Brit, I agree that - in the long run especially - I'd prefer to see WGT recreate a few of the PGA Championship courses, or extend the CTTH ones, than keep making the Open courses each year.

I have to say though, I'd be disappointed if we didn't get a course other than Merion this year, even if it isn't Oak Hill or a PGA Tour tie-in. TruGolf is also not a just replacement, unless they plan on releasing a whole bunch of them and making the existing few free to play which I'm sure still wouldn't satisfy a large majority.

I was looking forward to the prospect of getting to play Muirfield on here..... even though I live 20 mins from it and have admission to the Open sorted out already :)

It was after all the place where the original 13 rules of golf were introduced. It's a fantastic links course..one of the top 3 in the UK.

BUT there's a downside.......the Muirfied board are the most stubborn /  stuffiest / most exclusive / sexist / snobby nosed twats in the world of golf and there's more chance of all the multis on WGT disappearing overnight than WGT having got Muirfield. I'd love to be proved wrong on this one.

Rumour has it when Muirfield got broken into by intruders, they would not even give the Police access because there was a female officer present.

If Muirfield appears on WGT for the virtual 2013 British Open, I personally will swim from Glasgow to New York then make my way up the Statue of Liberty and bungee jump from the top only attached to the bungee via my wedding tackle.

I'm pretty sure when WGT made original contact with Muirfield it would have been a point blank "no"...due to Muirfield's stubborn stuffy self important attitude, so WGT should have had plenty of time to strike up an agreement with another course. As long as we get another HD course.....any HD course that would suffice.
