Pin Positions

  I know that a number of courses have 2 pin positions.

  In playing these courses it seems to me that there is no random nature to these.  There are some pins that I rarely see, for example the 11th hole at St Andrews has an up pin and a back pin on this par three hole.   I see the up pin about 1 in 25 rounds.   BPB has two sets of pins as well but on some holes you rarely see but one pin placement.

  I was curious as to how these are determined and is there any way to set your game up to get set 1 or set 2 of the pins.

  Hi

  Each pin has easy and hard rating, so you may rarely see 1 pin while you will see other alot. If you want a variety, best to select medium setting in practice mode.

  I had assumed that the pins were rated hard and easy based upon the placements that I see, I could argue on a few of them that what is viewed as hard depends upon your point of view (#11 at STA for example) I think the back pin is much easier.

  I would like to be able to mix it up, select a specific set and I guess that isn't possible.

  There is no selection from our side, not even in practice mode.

  I once wanted to check out some differences between KIA's #9 pins, started a practice round "easy holes" and a second one "hard holes". Imagine my disbelief when coming to #9 the second time and finding the same hole location than before :(

  St Andy's #2 also! when the pin when it is placed right behind the mound presents a great challenge to tuck it in close with your approach shot. where as the other pin a little left of the mound on approach presents a more challenging putt. both challenging in their own right !!

  STA #2 has two very difficult pin positions as you stated.  I actually think the up pin position is easier to make a par on since the back pin is so tough to putt unless you are directly below the hole.

  I'm just disappointed that we don't have two sets of tees that show up all the time.  I don't care about hard or easy, I just want the variety.  I'd like to pick a stroke play or alt shot game on these courses and get the alternate tees every other game or so.  It is so bad on some courses (BPB for example) that I have forgotten some of the pin placements.  The 15th hole has a back pin that you rarely see, another hole maybe the par 3 eighth hole also has a far back right pin that I rarely see.

  STA as well, I can't remember when I last saw the back pin on 18.  I rarely see the back left pin on 1 while some pins on that course seem to pop up randomly, for example the pin on 2, 5,7 and 8 come and go from both places all the time.  

  Variety is all we want.  Having mixed pins makes it seem that we have additional courses.

  you hit the nail on the head !! if there were multiple pin and tee locations on the existing courses it would result in more variety and challenges. new courses would then be considered a very welcome bonus !!

  I feel the same way. Would love to see the alternate pins occur equally as much, or at least closer to that. BTW- I have had the back left on STA 1 come up several times recently, and BPB 15 back right twice in two weeks. I always smile when the rarer alt pins come up. Interestingly, last time I had the mid green CCC 7 pin (alt shot game), I got my first HIO. Have not seen that pin since.. I like to pretend it is afraid of me now ;-)

  Tee locations in ranked games are more or less fixed by your level but if we could select the pins, we could at least play practice games on multiple tees, pins, etc. and it would be similar to playing very different shots.

  ...I didn't even know CCC 7 had a middle pin.
