Every time i get a decent round going at Merion to be able to post a qualifying score for the Open, i get stung by the meter (or just bad luck)
A couple of days ago i was -12 at the 15th with a simple 3 foot putt for birdie i went to take the putt clicked mouse and meter skipped an inch past ding missed the hole then rolled back down the hill. A birdie turned to BOGEY.
But worse was to come yesterday, I was -11 teeing off at the 12th, perfect wind and feeling on fire, i pressed what i thought was ding but AGAIN, meter jumped an inch past ding and shot my ball straight for a tree, LOST BALL, and had to tee off again all ready on 3 strokes! I thought my scoring was good enough to be able to not worry about a bogey so I carried on a bit annoyed with meter, but happy round was still salvageable. Thats what i thought, but never trust the damn sadistic meter. On teeing off my 2nd attempt I decided to hold the meter for a few seconds (placebo effect or does it work??.:) Again my meter jumped from just before ding to an inch past, and again i hit tree. This time i didn't lose a ball, but nearly lost the ones i have after jumping on my seat. DAMN METER.!! Robbed of a decent round (AS USUAL)
My punishment was not over yet, i restart and get back to -11 at the 13th, my approach which was bang on the money then hits the flag stick and rebounds 20 yards away into 60% weeds. Yes, It took me a few shots to get out of those weeds, but not complaining, just bad luck on that round, i actually REALLY LIKE THE WEEDS around Merion, they're a pretty good punishment if you mess up and more courses should have those all over the place to keep you on your best behavior. Back to the grind then. this course Is pretty tricky at times
