It will be single play for the most part.  Each week will have a different style game play and different club restrictions.  There will also be a long drive and closest to the hole competition every week.  Points will be given based on placement and winning the long drives and closest to the hole.  Points will be added up to determine the winner.  Should be pretty interesting.

Ouch ... I hope to heck I am wrong ... but this smells like it's going to be run by WGT .. but in the same manner we would run a community tournament.    Having worked with Vic (Coolswing) to put together  the 2 seasons of the WGA Tour ... and having run 2 big community tournaments I can tell you this is a huge undertaking.   (The one in 2012 was the small one Genorb -- :)  )

Just a guess but Long Drive and CTTH will be done by screenshots ...  some of the competitions will be CTTH.  When you have club restrictions this means everything is done manually and tracked with screen shots and the honor system.

    I repeat - I hope I am totally wrong.

Sorry Lou, I didn't want to minimize your amount of work creating and managing those competitions.

What I had in mind was tournaments like WGT Fall/Winter Tour where essentially everything is done automatically. WGT members don't have the tools WGT employees have to create/manage tournaments. With those tools almost everything is running automatically.

That's why WGT should avoid unnecessary amount of work. Creating rounds which need to be check out afterward with screenshots etc is perhaps too much work.

It would be sad to see this kind of competition happen only once because at the end of the day it's just to much work to handle.

If we can get series of 8 weeks tournaments running regularly in a automatic way and which are mostly single play together with a grand final between the bests of those 8 weeks, that would be very very nice already. No need to make things more complicated with long drive and ctth is they need to be verified by hand with screenshot. The same goes for rounds with restricted clubs.

    Regards

No apology necessary Genorb .. I totally understood where you were coming from.

And I agree ... anything that WGT can do to have things done automatically is the way to go.

There is one other way to get this done.   Allow some of the community players to set up single play tournaments in the same fashion we set up CC tournaments --- but for more than just players in your own C Club.    Much the way the "easter tournament" was done by Marco (Markone56).     He gave WGT a list of folks ... and they were the ones invited / allowed to play.       Right now the restriction is .. 1 country club .... maybe allow folks to join 2 at a time.   Club A for their "home C Club" .. and Club B for "community tournaments".    (I'm sure there are a lot of issues with it but .... doing things manually is a chore and a half).

And anything to do with Screen Shots or with playing "on your honor"  ... just wont' work.

I get where everyone is coming from.  I am going to be very upfront about the way the process has worked and will work.

Running tournaments by a WGT mod has never been done before and I had to prove that it was viable to do it.  Once I was able to prove that the Starter club match play worked I was given the green light to do any tournaments I wanted like that match play.  I want to do it bigger and better, like the idea of the automatic tournaments set up and scored, but do do that I have to run one on my own and be able to come back and say hey I got X number of players to sign up.  The majority liked but wished it could be run like the other tournaments on WGT.  Hopefully then I can show the interest is there and can push for a bigger better WGT Tour.

I wish this could be a 0 to 60 type of thing but, unfortunately it can't.  I have to go through methodically and carefully so I can do bigger and better things in the future.

So please bear with me during the process and enjoy it for what it is.  Fun.  Any and all feedback during and after will be greatly appreciated and helpful going forwards.

    Shoe,

There is a way to make it work with just one screen shot per entrant.

WGT has set up "Nation only" tourneys in the past, so a Nation only tourney could be created by WGT with any preset conditions...i/e Red tees, high wind, etc...

On the 9th green the player would then take a screen shot of them putting with their club set showing - assuming club/ball restrictions and current score - and post the screen shot for verification.

Closest to the hole and long drives might be more difficult though, as there is no way to verify if those shots or stats actually came from the game posted, unless multi-player games were arranged, and then things could take a long time to get played.

Just some things to think about.

No definitely they can.  The long drive and closest to the hole will have to be done with replays.  There is no other way of doing it right now.  Long drive will be a specific hole so you know to take a replay of your drive.  Same goes for CTTH. Like I said there will be a few growing pains but hopefully not to many.

A solution may be for WGT  to add the date and time to all scorecards, im no computer wizz but i would think it wouldn't be to hard to do, its seems simple enough to have date and time on every forum post.

On a positive note sooooo pleased something is about to happen, Vics  tours were always great to play in, and everyone seemed to just get on and play, if WGT can come anywhere close to how they were run they will be onto a winner for sure.

I sure do the appreciate the effort you guys are making, to put some life back in are game. Ideally , it would be nice to have set up like Shoe mentions , and set up by WGT. That way your round is automatically registered , thus avoiding multiplayer games , where there will be the inevitable disconnects, thus requiring screen shots verifying last hole played , having to set up times available to play , so on and so forth.     My skills are limited , but if I can help in any way , let me know.   Thanks again , for your efforts.

    Hi Shoe

Firstly I would like to say it is fantastic that someone at WGT is actually putting themselves out to put together a tournament that the clients want. Thank you.

What I would say though is don't make this too complicated. What is being asked for here is a competition that the Tour Legends want to get up in the morning for. At the moment the US Open is the only one. We want all the best players competing.

There are monthly competitions where the best players at grinding out low scores in multi play events can excell. What we don't have are really good single play events.

There is kind of an intimation in your earlier piece that there will be lots of different types of trial in this event. Why? Are you wasting your time looking at this? Do people actually want to play Oakmont with starter clubs?Or to play a CCTH with starter balls or at all?

What we want is a tour, it does not need to be that complicated, why not play one round on each course and make each set-up challenging(High Winds on Beth and SA are a must).

The long drive closest to hole for each round are a good idea but try and keep the thing as a whole straight forward.

    Good luck

    Paul
