    Corwyn:

So, just a status update as we reach halfway through the first round timeline:

We have 7 pairings that have played their Oakmont rounds, with Cerino leading the pack with a 71.

I did get word from Eric (LOLserver) that reluctantly, he has to withdraw due to sudden pressure of work, with 4 projects landing on his desk due by Oct 8! James (jlucky3333) will play with a marker instead, and that's in hand. James: your call as to whether Cerino's, bhoese's, or my times work better for you.

That leaves 8 other pairings to play, 2 of whom (Corwyn/deedles77 // bhoese/BigInigoMontoya) have declared their schedule in the thread. Here are the other 6 pairs. Please let us know your progress on setting up your matches. You have until Sunday midnight (WGT time) to get your rounds in:

    Wesdogg75 & gsprink

    Kurtsbuford & Legaci

    chrisironsbones & togemag

    ljbast & seemorehair

    GolfingJMan & Timbo1984

    GEHL13 & unclenewy

I have just got back from working away and have received a message from GEHL13. I have replied that I have a few days at home before Sunday and hope to get it played tomorrow or Saturday.

I do have a laptop when I work away but prefer to play at home as I know the connection is good and very rarely disco, but if I can't get games played at home I will have to rely on hotel wifi on keep fingers crossed.

    Cheers

    Neil

What can I say - a disaster! :) Took 3 holes for us to settle down and LJ even managed a bird on 8. After shooting a par rd with 5 birds I was very disappointed - my putting really let me down. Lj missed at least 3 putts under 4 feet.

    Hey SMH,

I had a similar experience. I practiced just great with under par rounds then the time came to deliver, I just couldn't get the feeling I needed to settle down and play my best. I suppose when you know it counts, it really counts. ;)

I hope to see some more cards posted today. Anyone having trouble with communication or timing with their pard, please speak up soon. We only have today and the weekend to get the rounds played even if marker players are needed.

    GL to everyone.

CerinoDevoti had to play a round with me and I just could not hit the swing meter and did not fully understand the uneven lies; wow what a disappointment.  So on to Royal practiced a round shooting +2 on the first 9 until wacking #9 into weeds and WACKETY, wack, wack, wack, shot a +7

here the uneven lies, green speed, and my driver shot; that is the only club that I have that's not starter ...

well I guess I don't know how to do that yet. :(

Ian and I played our 1rst round,  I always believe that i dont need practice but the card is telling me otherwise, very good round for Ian,  had his putter been hotter he would have posted a 58.

    BigInigoMontoya:
I was given a penalty stroke on 18.  My timer ran out on 17 cause I was unsure about my lie, and on 18 I was taking a screenshot of the green and lost track of time, and I ran out of time there as well.  bhoese said he would talk to Corwyn about removing the penalty, so I'll wait to hear back from them before I officially enter my score.

    Corwyn:
    bhoese:
Oh!  I will vouch for BigInigo's penalty stroke on 18.  He played at a good pace all evening...seems unnecessary.

As for the penalty shot, thanks for sharing your perspective Ben. That definitely helps. I will confer with my co-organizer but my initial inclination is toward leniency here. As context, there's only a warning for first violation of screenshot posting rules anyway, so it would be cruel indeed to exact the 'slow play' penalty while someone's just getting to grips with their first screenshots.

I would urge everyone to get some practice in with taking screenshots. My method is just to drop them into whatever picture program you have (e.g. mine is Preview for the Mac), then Hide that program right away, and not worry about saving them until later.

    OK. Catching up at last...

I did consult with Cerino, and yes we will remove the penalty stroke in this instance. As I said earlier, there's only a warning for first violation of screenshot posting rules anyway, so it would be cruel indeed to exact the 'slow play' penalty while someone's just getting to grips with their first screenshots.

Actually, Cerino did propose, tongue-in-cheek, I think... :) ... that since Ben was the playing partner, and he and Ben are currently tied for first place, that we "should take the penatly from Inigo and add it to Ben's score so I'm alone in first place. ;)"

Not sure if Ben would agree with that though, Cerino!

So, Inigo, I've marked you up for 76 instead.

And, everyone, please do practice screenshots. It's remarkable how easy it is for that distraction to affect your game. Consider doing them when you have a tap-in, or a long lag putt that you're not expecting to make.

My first round with Tom (Seemorehair ).  Great company but what a disaster out there. I think my cruminess brought Tom down with me. Looks like I need quite a bit of practice on these uneven lie business.

Tom, play well in the following rounds.
