Great replay examples, Scott! In another thread on cross-wind compensation, I provided my take on what I call the 'shot-shaping region' surrounding the Ding-line. A picture's worth 1,000 words, so here it is:
In Scotts 1st replay, he's drawing the ball into a 12mph L->R x-wind. Since hitting a hair before midway through the 'early' light blue 'Pull/Draw' region would produce a pretty straight flight (essentially canceling the x-wind) I deduce Scott has hit it even earlier, maybe right about the border between 'early' dark blue and light blue (the 20mph L->R cancellation point.
In Scott's 2nd example, I deduce he's hit it way late - 1/2 way or more into the 'late' dark blue Slice region. With no wind, it WOULD be a banana ball slice; the big x-wind has transformed it into a nice fade.
My main point is, using the entire 'hitting zone' we can shape our shots to control it in adverse winds or adverse terrain.
CAUTION! Do not stray outside into the blackness on either end of the 'Hitting Zone; if you do, it's likely you've lost a ball as the result!
