This is a crude pic but I keep it at the ready when this question gets asked. Setting the aimer is the tricky part where some practice is needed before this is tried in a comp.

A draw against the wind, camera 1 for the best replay view.

Fade into a 26mph crosswind, again, camera 1 for best view.

Check out this draw, or hook if you will.  I hope the link works.  there is another post on where to aim and hit for Bethpage  #2 I think.  It's definately worth toying with.

Great replay examples, Scott! In another thread on cross-wind compensation, I provided my take on what I call the 'shot-shaping region' surrounding the Ding-line.  A picture's worth 1,000 words, so here it is:

In Scotts 1st replay, he's drawing the ball into a 12mph L->R x-wind. Since hitting a hair before midway through the 'early' light blue 'Pull/Draw'  region would produce a pretty straight flight (essentially canceling the x-wind)  I deduce Scott has hit it even earlier, maybe right about the border between 'early' dark blue and light blue (the 20mph L->R cancellation point.

In Scott's 2nd example, I deduce he's hit it way late - 1/2 way or more into the 'late' dark blue Slice region. With no wind, it WOULD be a banana ball slice; the big x-wind has transformed it into a nice fade.

My main point is, using the entire 'hitting zone' we can shape our shots to control it in adverse winds or adverse terrain.

CAUTION! Do not stray outside into the blackness on either end of the 'Hitting Zone; if you do, it's likely you've lost a ball as the result!

Thanks Bob, in both my example shots I was at the extreme outer edge of the dark blue areas and it took several attempts to get as close as I did.

I don't know if more movement could be obtained by not using the free WGT rocks but as I value my callies too much I'm not going to wear them out by experimentation.

Here's one last example into a 9mph headwind. I was aiming at the far end of the white fence to the right and clicked so close to the line on the left end of left dark blue area that a gnats whisker more would've been a shank.

Shame on me, Scott - lol. I didn't pick up on the 'Unlimited' ball in play in your vid. Indeed, things DO change with better balls! The better the spin characteristics, the livelier the reaction to shot shaping. I use Nike distance balls, because the Nike spin balls are TOO lively for my taste, lol; compare to your queball:

Here's a strong draw with my equipment set at BPB #2. The initial flight path was along my aiming line, I hit the shot ~half way into the early dark blue. If I hit it just 1/8-1/4 into the dark blue, i get a vicious duck hook into the weeds left on near end of fairway!

Using the "draw/hook" or the "fade/slide" is very useful not only in the mentioned holes where trees (obstacles) make you use the feature (if we can call it feature).

I have used many times also with 3 wood, if lying on rough left hand side of hole 16 at Oly or hole 7 at Beth for example. I have even tried with the long irons at Congres hole 5 when the wind is strong from left-right in the approach. that you know you will never land close to the pin due to the tree at the left hand side of the bunker......just to mention some.

As a Uneven Lies lover I am, I wish it was a "lateral spin" on the ball (moving the dot sideways and not only up & down) for a real draw or fade, but WGT has never made any comment on that despite I have mentioned many times now.

Yup, you loose distance but it is worth hitting those blue meter areas if you know more or less how many yards you will loose.

I've watched your replay of that shot Bob an it's a nice drive, I wish I could get it right at that hole but I guess I need to keep practising.

Having managed to get a fair bit of movement with the free ball it would be interesting to know just how much you could get out of a ball with lots more spin, might try one day when I have a few more credits under my belt.
