    ScottHope:
I wish I could get it right at that hole but I guess I need to keep practising.

This is how I play my Tee shot on Beth#2 off the Blacks using Driver.

Aim is very important,  have look at pic..  at the end of red arrow there is a cutting/alcove in the tree line.... place the aim there

    Using Driver off the Blacks.....

Full Shot .... Full B/spin......then click the Line before Ding

Then the end result is shown in my replay ..... leaves an easier wedge shot to green

Careful with R to L cross winds... heavier wind it is then move aim further to right

Thanks for the tip Roger, next time I'm there I'll give it a try.

Is there much distance lost when playing these draw/fades?

This is what I was talking about before.....here is how to find green at Oly hole 16 hitting from rough using the already mentioned "hook" . It works also for Beth, Merion, Congressional, or any course where trees are obstacles.

You can also do it with long irons but you need to be sure how far, from the ding, to hit in the meter blue area, you can get nasty results & lost ball if missing the right meter spot. I take the chance many times in those "single" play tournaments....there is no way back....LOL.

It takes lots of practice & patience to get the best results. Mulligans are here now & makes the learning process much easier...use "starter" balls first.

    & the replay here

    Hope it helps.

Very nice, but my success rate with that kind of shot would be about 0 in 100, lol.

Off a tee yes, but I haven't tried it out of the rough, and in a game where you only get one chance, I'm more likely to play it safe unless I'm in a bonkers frame of mind.

Good plan indeed, although I rather have a 30-40 yard shot from rough or sand than a 180 yard shot from fairway, all a matter of trusting your own skills.

Same as hole 10 at Merion, 99% of the top players would try green from the tee because of the short length for the second shot. The game is SO easy on even lies that you can take those chances, Again sand of rough is not a problem with good wedges.......and experience.

    Respect tho. Eric

I would love to see true draw/fade ability added to the game.  But, I can only imagine how much more we'd be punished for missing the ding with it.

    Example...

Aim way out right and add some draw spin, but miss ding late and risk pushing your ball str8 out to the right in OB or trouble areas.

Or, aim for draw and miss early only to duck hook the snot out of it ... another lost ball. lol

But IMO, the reward would be so much more worth the risk.
