How to play out of 60-70%?

  It does exist. Trust me, I find that 60 -70 crap on the third cut every time I play Merion.

  Ok .... not every time, but when I do find it, I curse like there is no tomorrow, and then I punch the crap out of it.

  The rough in mention was indeed on Merion.

  I don't know if it exists elsewhere - it probably does. I think a full power punch will get it out, guess no choice but to settle for a bogie.

  I don't think that's a bad idea. It's an easy birdie provided you hit the fairway. I am always temped to go for the green but often hit a tree on land in rough/bunker. I do usually make birdie even from the rough but my DA is about 50% or less there, lol.

  In a recent RG I got a double bogie on #10 because I was in 60-70%, round killer on first hole :(

   Just as easy from the rough if you master that punch shot.  :-)

  FWIW, you can find 60-70 around the edge of most of the traps at Merion. Punching out is essential and if you're close enough to the green you can use a full pitch.

  There is worse rough than 60/70... I think there is 90% rough somewhere

  10th at Merion is very driveable off the Tee...  but end up short or long and expect big trouble.  3wood off the tee or short driver onto the fairway....  if just off the fairway in rough, then close enough to have a good wedge....   then 1 putt for bird.

  Easy....   well sometimes....lol
