Nike Iron level 97 or TaylorMade R11?

  Hi

  I know it is early days...  But I really can't figure out what to play with,  The new Nike Iron or stick to my trusted and good feeling Taylormade R11 Iron.   Yes,  the meter is slower for Nike, but quite often i hit meter to early. Simply use to the speed of TaylorMade. 

  Also the backspin for the Nike Iron gives me some problems, but maybe it is just me, but anyone else got some comments for the subject?  Just curious....

  IMHO, if you have no issue with the R11 I'd stay with them.  I do think they are very similar, but feel they have to be approach as a new iron set.

  I do love the PW of the Nike.

  Yes, I agree with the PW.

  Not too many games played with the L97's.   I'm still trying to get the hang of the slower meter speed as I'm clicking early. Once I get the speed programed in me brain that's not too much of a worry.....  I luv the slower meter speed.

  Coming up way short of the pin,  I will have to take some of b/spin off now. Just another minor adjustment.

  At the moment I feel I've taken a shot off me games and once I get the feel of em a bit more then that could be more shots off.

  I can only talk about the L97's and I would say... If you like a fast meter speed then stick to the R11's...   if you like a slower meter speed then get the Nike Irons. They are a very good set.

  The big difference lies in the meter speeds of the two sets...

  however...

  I've never been able to get the R11 3-iron to hold the green for the second shot at BPB #4, no matter how much backspin is applied.  Have already had and made several eagle putts there since I got the Nike irons because I've been able to hold the green using full backspin with the 3-iron.  The extra bit of spin, along with the slower meter, clinches it for me. 

  You'll really appreciate the extra holding power of the Nike irons when hitting approaches to elevated greens.

  This is my major worry about spending 4000cr, at the moment unless I hit a full shot with the R11 I can be anything up to 5-20 yards short on a shot. Totally random. This gets worse when I adjust the spin.

  If you have to adjust the nikes spin to achieve the R11 stopping length that's a whole new learning curve in my book and open to all sorts of manipulation on results. And all to finish where the R11 currently puts you just getting there with a slower meter, lol

  I appreciate the comment about better appraoches to elevated greens, I think that will be the main advantage. But is that worth 4000cr? 

  I dunno, still unsure.

  i had r11 irons since level 90,i liked them but the fast meter was letting me pass the ding many times.

  now since i bought this nikes 8 from 10 time able to ding and i like the backspin very much,

  its takes just a little time to learn the distances ,but same distance increase makes it easy,best irons available here on wgt

  if you ask buy or not.a 100 % yes from me

  Having switched from the R11 irons to the lvl97 Nikes, one difference i've noticed and am happy about is the ability to stop the ball on elevated greens such as at Whistler, especially when using the 3 or 4 iron.

  Before on hole 1 for example, the ball would roll through the green leaving a chip to the flag.  Now i can get the ball to stick to the green and so I'm putting.

  The slower meter will be a bonus, once i'm dialled in, though 4000cr is a lot to pay, and the resale price of the R11s back to WGT is pathetically low.

  Hi Steve, i got the level 85s and to me the best set of irons i have ever owned. They are G20s on Steroids, with great sticking power. I am glad to see your doing well and i wish you the merriest of Christmas's my friend.

  not to change course but i have the r11s and hate them . im at level 96 and thought about the 97 nikes after looking at them and the meter i went for the lvl 85s i think there all that and a bag of chips still hitting a little early but the r11s make you a little gun shy

  found this thread and it is very relevant to me as I am very near L97

   

  agfter a year, does everyone think that there is a slight benefit to these irons vs the R11? The main question I have is, Are they more precise? I've found from the few no wind tourneys that were here about a year ago that the R11s are precise to within 12 feet. Is the precision circle smaller for the Nikes?

   

  The meter is no issue for me as when I was learning the game and first made pro tier, I was playing the WGT pro iron set with rocks and could handle the meter reasonably well
