I am not an expert but if you cut back about a tenth for tournament speed greens on what you would normally hit, you are somewhere in the ball par.  But even after that they are more challenging

Thanks, Seekerb.   Yes, the 'tournament' speeds are slighly more than 'very fast'.  I've since learned that it's the 'championship' green speeds (which I get in any tournament) that are next to impossible to putt for me, at least at this point.

I do have another question about all this:  It appears I go up a 'tick' in my level for every shot I hit.  Using this logic, aren't I better off shooting 5 rounds of 100 than shooting 5 rounds of 70?  Seems like the only thing that counts is the number of shots you hit, as opposed to the score you shoot.  This makes no sense at all.  Someone tell me I"m wrong here...

Let me join the choir with my 2 cents worth, posted in another thread about the same maddening topic (incidentally, there is a French proverb that says : "Better is the enemy of good", Not that improvements are not desirable  and possible, but that the obsession with improving a thing that is already good, if not great, often messes everything. And the new update is a case in point).

So here's what I think, which complements some shrewd observations by other contributors.

The new Pro Shop system, based on levels, is crippling and annoying, both for WGT and its members. WGT loses money; members can't buy what they want.

How about this simple idea : Every piece of equipment is available to everyone all the time, but the equipment characteristics, from mediocre to great, determine the level of game difficulty; as in the position of the tees and the speed of the greens. This, in my humble  opinion, would give players the best possible range of options, and WGT would pocket plenty of cash.

I have one more question... If I already have the best clubs I can get, what am I playing for?  What happens when I get to the next 'great' level?  My average score continues to skyrocket, the more I play.  Looks like I'm playing strictly to try to re-learn the game (specifically putting).  Going from shooting low 60's to just being excited about breaking par (YES, I DID IT!!!  Shot 70 on Kiawah.. only 4 3-putts!!!) somehow doesn't make this all worthwhile.  I think that's the bottom line- 3-4 days ago we all were shooting much better scores, and now they've taken away the good clubs (for some people, anyway) and made putting a new adventure.

%^$&#^$ - maybe sometimes the best input comes from the cuff - no edit, no research, no more reading forums. this is my ONE rant [putting not included]. i want to put everything in caps and bold, but i resist lest i be embarrased, or WGT fixes it soon. i could care less how much WGT makes, other than the fact that they are still around and "afford" us the opportunity to play a great game [i support every great product]. analogous to this is caring if microsoft lost 4 billion, and not wanting to lose Word as my doc editor, or Windows 7 as my OS. Great products will always find a home [Google for example]. i know i am missing something, but fail to see [might be the 12-pack i drank] the big picture. it seems like $ may be runnin the show, same reason we don't have a college football playoff system. if these changes are all about tournament play and credit wins - make them exclusive to that. can't you let the rest of us get birdies once in a while and have fun at the same time? let us buy tier-level equipment, adjust levels for a perspective of a player's "honor", charge what u need for balls/avatars/etc - but don't make me 4-putt on some ridiculous green - it's not fun. split us in 2 - those who do it for money/credits, and those who do it for fun. i for one am about fun, i just want to hit a 25-ft putt once in a while without havin to bend the aim 10 feet and hit the putt 9 feet and hope for the best. isn't there a happy medium? JEEZ

i couldn't agree more. your attempt at parity has made me wish that i hadn't played all those rounds and put in the time and effort yn hopes of shooting par or better, especially at bethpage. of course upgrading my clubs or at least a driver a requirement to  me. i still feel the butterflies when i shot my best round a 66. well guess what - i'm back to square 1. i can't reach the par 4's and feel like with alot of work i might break 80. no thanks i worked hard to earn my less than 10 total credits in tournament play but i was fine with that. i also felt that as in real golf if i kept playing i might actually get the putting, chipping, shot selection, etc. down to where i might have a chance to shoot a low round. it always looked at those that were as obviously better players who had put in that time and effort. sure makes one feel that it is a $$ thing. what is really amazing at my level i'm locked out of upgrading to anything that will solve my problem. why am i complaining. after all i am now master tier i should expect that theres always going to be at least 1 or 2 par 4's on each 9 that are unreachable, hey keep trying maybe one day the wind will be behind you on those holes. sorry the thrill is gone !!

Having started this post on 2 Sept, not realising there was a similar one under WGT Beta 'This is Nuts' that started on the 1st September, I should mention what is at least a temporary conclusion on the issue for me.  I visited the Pro Shop today and WGT seem to have introduced Tiers as well as levels on the equipment.  This means for example that all Master Clubs are available for Masters.  This I think is what many of us wanted and I congratulate Wgt for responding so quickly to the issue.  I believe that this will make the new system fairer and not defeat what they have tried to do with levels.  I say this with a qualification as I cannot find any announcements from Wgt on the matter, so we do not know whether this response is temporary or permanent.

I thank everyone who contributed I learnt a lot from the discussion and underpins what a great game and community this can be

The only time I've played from tees farther back are at the tour master unlimited 18 stroke tourney..... ranked play the tour masters still drive from master tees.... the greens are tournament speed which I still don't understand fully..... The weekly unlimited 9stroke tourney still has me hitting from the master tees as well. My best advise is to keep playing and learn the speed of the green so you can adjust your power level correctly and play..... who knows maybe you will move up in levels faster than you think.... I'm sorry for all the "tour masters" who got raised up in level before they found the clubs they wanted..... I think the level for clubs should only apply for those below master tiers...... well you get to keep what you owned before the change so my Taylor made driver going 275 is great........

Maybe there is a cool logic to this: that if it is a tournament the conditions maybe SHOULD be harder than for an everyday ranked round... The longer teeboxes and faster greens also did not seem to be available yet in practice mode, and maybe that would be part of the same logic...

I got to second this, my play here is coming to and end. I am sooooo disappointed their are no 9 hole unlimited tourneys in tour master. I don't belong here anyway. I have never won anything, or even come close.
