    Merion #5 with the pin back  -  Merion #15

    Oak #1 with the pin back

    Bethpage #15 with the pin back

    Merion #5:  For front pin, bump and run works most of the time.  Land the ball on the fairway right and a little short, usually with no or very little backspin.  The properly struck shot will catch the slope and curl around toward the hole and roll past, usually leaving an uphill birdie putt.

    Here's an example of where you want the ball to land for the front pin:

     208 yd 4-iron eagle

    For the back pin, land on the right edge of the green a little past pin high and use backspin.  The ball will curve down toward the pin and usually roll a bit past, leaving an uphill putt for bird.
