Nancy Sinatra.....As I understand it, the "Boots" song was directed toward ex-husband Tommy Sands, who was pretty "hot", for being a 'rounder'. Her Boots & "old blue eyes" did the job on his career...bye bye Tommy Sands
I saw a Tom Jones show in Las Vegas, and although he was 'long in the tooth', well beyound prime, he was exciting.

in 68, Roman Emperor Nero has his throat slit by his secretary to avoid a Senate imposed death by (oh boy...) flogging*@#%. Always avoid flogging if possible..... It is called 'verberatio' by Romans. It is done at scourging posts. Each post has a ring on top where the hands are tied and the person is stripped naked. The wrists, shakled to the ring, prevents any twisting or turning to avoid the blows by the flagellum ( a handled, 8-9 tailed whip tipped with small lead balls and sharp pieces of small sheep bone). The key to the executioners' art is not how hard they whip a man but the effort with which they yank the whips tendrils away from the flesh after each blow. With usually four taking turns, to prove themselves superior, they grip the handle of the flagellum a little harder and lean into a lash with a bit more strength. If they do really well, they might expose the victim's internal organs.....Avoid if possible, a slit throat is way better.
