CharlemagneRH: A 50-yard satin chips what? 6 yards? That would have been about a 7.5-8 ft chip, then, which would've gone 10 ft past the hole, seeing as how 4 ft would have been the ideal amount of power for a putt from the green.
Here's a replay of a similar shot on #2 at Oakmont, tournament speed green, from the fringe, behind and above the pin. 20ft and 11 inches down. If it were on the green, I'd hit it with 5.5 ft of power.
I used a 64 degree Ping(a 60 yd wedge, says 7 yds on a chip) chip, hit @50% power. To inside 3 feet.
I think you grossly overestimated YJ's distance on his 50% chip shot. The result won't be a huge problem or an absolute catastrophe.
I do feel WGT needs to adjust the "tackiness" of the fringe to make it more puttable especially with the new faster green speeds.
Until they do, go practice those tiny, delicate chip shots as YJ recommends.
