My preferred default shot to that pin at that hole hole is a punched 8 iron, but other ways of doing it of course.
You never said what power / spin you used, but a 9 iron with a 4 MPH tail is way capable of landing precisely where it did. You also demonstrated no knowledge of how that hole usually plays with your preferred shot.
The only problem is that you have not mapped your irons properly with your one choice of ball.
Personally I use BPB B9 #10 for all long irons to get a rough good idea for long iron approaches. Taking only dings in low cross wind the average of 5 shots each iron, FBS, 75%, 50% and 25% BS at 100% power. Then each iron 100% power and then tiny amounts of so 97.%, 95%. Mid irons I do at Beth #10 and practice the lot Beth #11. Off the tee you need to know how those irons work again...Beth #3 just a cross wind I can play mt preferred ball / 3 iron no wind and easily reach the back pin, but FBS the very high spin I would be lucky to be going 222 yards hit 100%.
