In reality I don't think that WGT changed anything about the wind just put it into numbers what it was blowing.

In some of the earlier golf games, you had a wind meter and it blew up and down as the winds gusted while you hit, I think the wind was fixed on those games at some number in the middle but the potential of a wind gust put aside any argument about getting screwed by the wind.

One thing I notice on here is that many players, even some good ones, do not understand the relationship between wind and ball spin.  Many don't understand what full back spin is and with the higher level balls don't understand why they put the spin dot at the bottom hit into the wind and come up short.  Once you learn where true normal backspin is and the relationship of no backspin, full backspin, etc. is your iron play improves quickly.

I watch player after player hit the Cleveland wedge with a good NIKE ball and be shocked to see it back up 25 feet downwind.  The next guy hits the same shot using the proper spin and the ball hits and checks next to the hole.  Everyone seems to want to always blame the game, the VEM, getting screwed by the wind, etc.  Not sure that anyone wants to ever blame themselves but if they did the forums would be a very desolate place with few postings.

    MainzMan:

I'd have liked to see more variation, I think 2mph isn't enough.  Maybe have 3 for low wind, 6 for medium and 9 for heavy.   That way if you're playing medium or heavy wind to a pin close to a roll off, RSG #9 or 18 for instance, you'll have to play safe and have a long putt for birdie or risk a pitch and putt to save par if you go for the flag.

Great shout although will no doubt upset those golfing robots who consider any par to be a disaster, so probably wouldn't be implemented.

IMO the more realism the better.  Throw some real life golfing randomness into the mix.

    Hi All,

My two-penn'th is this. I have heard SO MANY TIMES people complaining about iron shots coming up short or flying too far left/right after painstaking mathematical calculations etc on their part. This feature gives a legitimate 'Real World' reason for such discrepancies.

Winds swirl, gust, change when at an above tree level, etc. Confession, I don't play golf in the real world, but sure as night follows day, I have listened to enough commentary on TV and lived long enough to know that wind is never as predictable as 'n' mph from any precise direction consistantly.

So, in my opinion, it's a realistic change. And people of WGT world, it's the same for everybody so we can all relax and I'm sure get used to it in time.

What say you, the calm and unflusterable?

    Have a groovy day, folks,

    AFD

This mod is exactly the change I posted about in October last year. Perhaps not to the extreme that it should be but it's close. And as predicted in that topic, the gamers would b!tch and the golfers would golf.

    A Simple Solution To VEM

I wish wgt would just fix the damn problems we have now and leave the other *** alone.  Who cares about a meter?...who cares about applause?  Just fix the current issues and keep the game running smoothly for crap sake.

Every couple of days I can play the same course & the wind is ALWAYS from the same direction.  What happened to "Settings to be set at 1st T"?  Luck of the draw????
