In reality I don't think that WGT changed anything about the wind just put it into numbers what it was blowing.
In some of the earlier golf games, you had a wind meter and it blew up and down as the winds gusted while you hit, I think the wind was fixed on those games at some number in the middle but the potential of a wind gust put aside any argument about getting screwed by the wind.
One thing I notice on here is that many players, even some good ones, do not understand the relationship between wind and ball spin. Many don't understand what full back spin is and with the higher level balls don't understand why they put the spin dot at the bottom hit into the wind and come up short. Once you learn where true normal backspin is and the relationship of no backspin, full backspin, etc. is your iron play improves quickly.
I watch player after player hit the Cleveland wedge with a good NIKE ball and be shocked to see it back up 25 feet downwind. The next guy hits the same shot using the proper spin and the ball hits and checks next to the hole. Everyone seems to want to always blame the game, the VEM, getting screwed by the wind, etc. Not sure that anyone wants to ever blame themselves but if they did the forums would be a very desolate place with few postings.
