its all a matter of knowing your clubs and how they react, for example, with the wind on each hole and each course.  it is very easy to hit a ball off the tee into st. a (where you seem to play the most) because everyone is looking to see how far they can hit is.  With a wind at my back, i use BS and hit it 90%.  I may be 100 yards short, but a 100 yard shot is not much harder than a 60 yd shot, so why chance it?

On most of the par 5's i rarely try for the green in two.  I lay up 60 to 100 yards short and hit a wedge into the green and my average on par 5's is something like 4.67

i rarely lose a ball (except by usage) except when i forget to change from driver to 3 wood on long par 3's (thank you caddy for giving me a 282 yard club on a 240 yd hole)...but that is stupidity on my part.

The OP is talking about a 70yd wedge shot.

I'm not saying that you weren't robbed but you'd do better with 3 equally spaced wedges.

Yes but the pitching wedge( he said pitching wedge) from that iron set hits much further than 70 yards. Perhaps a choked down punch shot hit underpowered?  Besides, there's a ton of green behind the hole. Hitting 2 into the water is bad course management.

9iron, tell us a bit more about your shot(s)

    Club used

    Distance club is rated at

    Type of shot (full, punch)

    Approximate % of power used

I have a feeling you took your 100yd PW and hit 70% and expected a 70 yard shot...not going to happen, more so with level 10 clubs.

In fact even with your 52 degree Ping, you can't play pure percentages.

    Thanks

You're very right Mike. knowing your clubs is everything. on my wedges most shots are open face, distance is accurate. it's good to know club max with full forward spin example: 100w is 109yds 80w is 87 yds and 60 is 63. balls play a big key too, these are percentages with Cleveland wedges and nike rzn black balls. anytime you move the spin on the ball you have to adjust your shot because of the way the ball comes off the clubs. as for percentages of power, i use the original meter and that word means something to me every character in the word is what i use to determine yardage for the shot using full or punch.
