I been trying my butt off, can't get past hole 5

Unless you're only  parring the first 5 holes (doubt it) you're probably shooting yourself in the foot. You can par 5 of the holes on the course and still qualify so instead of restarting after 5, just count down the pars you make until you get to the 5th one and then restart if you don't birdie out.  :-)

Me too, actually more like a week ago.

I spent a couple of hours beating my head against the wall. Then I cleared my cache, as stupid as it sounds, and the first round after i cleared, 56!

Don't know if the clearing actually did anything, or coincidence, or some mental game I played with myself, but needless to say, that's what happened

The next sound you hear will be 10,000 caches being flushed.  :-D

Restarting is awfully destructive to the karma.

    57 is daunting, considering that:

    • 4 is a par hole at best
    • there are really no eagle holes
    • some of the greens leave hardly anyplace near the hole where the ball will stay put
    • wedge approaches and chips and pitches from around the greens never seem to hole out

The points you make above are bang on and it is the last point that in particular affects my game. I always have a couple of dodgy shots over 18 holes which sometimes mean I miss greens. Missing a green doesn't normally mean your birdie chance is gone on the other courses, many players hole out frequently when pitching from just off. On this course however I have found it extremely difficult to pitch in, the ball seems to pull up just short when it looks good on first bounce.

In the last few days has any one managed to score a 57 or better to qualify for virtual open?

6/19/14......the day everything finally lined up for a smooth 57.  Every attempt at it prior to that included many of the issues already mentioned.  Keep at it and, as YJ already mentioned, don't give up on a round too early. :-)

There have been a lot of people in the past week or so going low.

I'm in at 57 but was around 60th and now I think I'm tied for about 95th and I believe that there are around 250 people at 57 or better.   Looks like 57 will still hold but I think we might have as many as 300 people qualify.

I'd actually like to see the qualifying open up even more to get more folks in the tournament.  I realize WGT is throwing in some credits but cut them off at the first 150 people based upon time posted or something like that.

Course is fair but tough, I think a lot of us that qualified early and haven't played it much since will be at a disadvantage when the tournament starts.  Also for those who haven't qualified, make sure you play the back nine some.  I have a few friends who burned up the front nine after dozens of restarts only to come in at a couple under on the back.   There is a stretch of about 5 holes on the back that you can make par on if you don't know the shots well.

Yes, its got to the "desperation" stage i will carry on with only 6 birdies on front hoping to get only 2 pars at worst on back.  But 16 seems to throw me and the easiest hole of the back 9 where you can be using 80 wedge to approach but ball seems to always want to roll right down the hill or overshoot hole.

For a good score at Pinehurst you have to have one or 2 long putts thrown into the mix too

I've gone from using R11's to Nike irons and back again, from using Nike level 81 to level 40 and back to the RZN 90's.  But finally after the marathon yesterday i feel i have learnt the course even more and Its only a matter of time the 57 will be conquered, (then i bet cut moves to 56 to stop WGT paying 250+ players out..LOL)

That wouldn't be right...think of how many are using up balls chasing that 2K in credits...certainly can't pull it from them now.
