I've just had the biggest kick in the teeth yet from WGT.  I was -12 on the 18th hole, my approach shot landed on ZERO YARDS, right next to pin, but instead of staying there it started rolling down until it went to 8 yards from hole.  Got to laugh.

    MBaggese:

    TarheelsRule:
I realize WGT is throwing in some credits but cut them off at the first 150 people based upon time posted or something like that.

That wouldn't be right...think of how many are using up balls chasing that 2K in credits...certainly can't pull it from them now.

    From the posted Tournament Rules:

"QUALIFIER PRIZES: There are 156* Qualifier Prizes. Each Qualifying Entrant who is eligible to win a prize will receive two-thousand (2,000) WGT Credits. Additional Restrictions may apply. By entering the Contest, you agree that WGT may share your user name and email address with the USGA and that USGA may contact you by email regarding this prize."

Notice the asterisk next to 156.  Nowhere in the posted rules is there any kind of reference or note explaining the asterisk.  Unless WGT says otherwise, one must assume that all who qualify receive 2,000 credits, no matter how many qualify.

If this isn't the case, WGT have got some explaining to do.  I'd like to hear from Icon or WGTadmin or any of the other moderators what exactly that asterisk means.

I posted a 57 on May 11.  By what justification is it any better than a 57 posted later by anyone else?

They probably just left out "plus ties."

    Virtual U.S. Open Qualifier Prizes

One random Sweepstakes player will win the Grand Prize trip to the 2015 U.S. Open at Chambers Bay in Washington where you and a friend will be the special guests of the USGA. In addition, the top 156 scores (plus ties) will each receive 2,000 WGT Credits, plus those players will advance to the Virtual U.S. Open Championship rounds where the top score will win a second Grand Prize trip for two to the 2015 U.S. Open. See rules for details.

From just under the leader board page.

    "Plus ties"

Baggs, thanks, I missed that part.  Still might be out of luck, though.  I threw out all my ties when I retired from teaching June 1st.

    ;-)

No, or i would be signing here in the forum not moaning.  Sods Law, i made 2 x 25+ footers there when i was -11 and score meant nothing, when i needed the putt i was 3 feet away :(

    TarheelsRule:
I'd actually like to see the qualifying open up even more to get more folks in the tournament.

Precisely. Note that unlike the real tourney, there are no physical limitations on having more players. Also, as membership in WGT has expanded and more players have climbed the ranks, there are just a lot more players who could have a crack at it. And with 4 final rounds, there is precious little risk that if they let a few riffraff in they will steal the show.

On the other hand, with those of us struggling repeatedly to match the qualifying score already shot by over 200 players there would seem no reason to believe we would suddenly turn in 4 magical rounds and outdo those who have posted a lower qualifying score. If the tourney is for the best, then what would I be doing there if I am obviously not one of the best?
