Any one qualified for open lately?

  Sometimes the answer is staring you in the face and you just cannot see it. After posting the above earlier I decided to change from my normal Nike ball to a Callaway lvl 35 ball figuring it'll run that wee bit more when pitching/flopping. 31 completed qualifying rounds playing a Nike ball and hadn't come close to a 57. 2 rounds with the Callaway and 4 shots holed from off the green. I had a putt on 18 for a 57 in my first game, then just there I shoot a 56. Finally a qualifying score in the nick of time.

  I done exactly the same thing after landing on 18 next to the pin and spinning back right down to bottom of green with level 90 RZN Nikes.  i decided to use the 3.5 spin RZN level 40 balls and nailed 57 immediately and a shot on 18th which stuck to inches from hole on approach.  Now if only WGT would release a 4.0 meter 5 distance 3.5 spin balls rather than the 3.5 meter they have at present i would stock up.

  My thoughts too, I learned that long ago...play it all the way through, even if no hope to qual on a particular round...never know when you might need that long putt, up and down save, etc, to keep a round going.

  I always play to the end otherwise you don't pick up the knowledge you have of the first 9. The back 9 on this course for me was harder to make birds making it all the more important I got to know it....

  Congrats to both Chris's on making it...

  I thought I was about to join you today, but fell agonizingly one short: missed this 6ft curler from right of the 18th hole (with an overdone late click), and had made a bad pull on 17th tee shot as well and misread the 18ft resultant putt. Two chances gone begging... Oh dear!

  So close... !

  (re the comments above concerning keeping on going, note that I was just -3 after 6 but still almost made it)

  

  One thing I'm curious about is how many players have made it using lower-level clubs... I'm trying to make TL with my now-obsolete G20 irons (although I have recently compromised by adding the BB 3W and lvl 92 putter to my bag).

  Anyone know what the best scores are by players using 'less fancy' clubs?

  I feel your pain Corwyn :( i posted this in our cc :-

  I am so bricking it right now lol.I'm currently on -12,and i have my approach on 18th...167yrds to pin up 11ft with a wind of 10-12mph headwind with the pointer aiming at 5 o'clock.

   The worst thing is i have already missed birdie putts by 4,7 and 11 inches,with an eagle chance stopping 3 inches short and a 12yrd pitch for birdie missing by 6 inches(should easily of qualified already)

   Went off to make a cuppa to try an calm myself down lol been 10 mins now,oh well here goes.

  AGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH    I BLEW IT i went with 179 3/4 bs,dinged it stopped 4 yrds short an rolled back to 6 yrds giving me a 17ft up 10 inch putt,and i choked!!!!! my line was spot on but for some unknown reason i only hit 15ft and it stopped 4.5ft short.Thing is i knew i had to hit it harder than that but Never what a fooking IDOT!!!

  Just shows you what small margins there is in this game,i know it's an if but from having a possible 53(54 with par on lh) to missing cut by 1 lol.

  LOL. This is exactly what happened to CIB 2 days ago-page 3 of this very thread.  He fixed it the second time by backing off the spin.  :-)

  Tbh it was more the complete head gone putt that peed me off more lol.I mean really 17 up 10and i only hit 15ft unreal.DOH!!

  Still a good show Russel and Corwyn, keep the faith Bro's...keep the faith!

   

  Corwyn, unsure of anyone qual'ing with lower level clubs, but I did at CCC with level 59 G10 (irons and woods) and level 40-ish ping wedges...capped off with the Tour SD ball...did know any better...lol!  Cut was 57 or 58, I don't recall.

   

  Next year at Oly, I don't know if I had the Level 79 Burners, or the R11's  (ask YJ about THAT story!!!.....)...but I still had my low level ping wedges and was using Cally balls.

  MB, that sounds like a fantastic achievement at CCC... and at Oly for that matter.

  So...the 79 Burners had been out for a loooooong time, there was some discussion in the forum and myself and someone else were "waiting" for another set of irons...I mean it'd been been 7, 8+ months since the Burners has been relesed...

   

  I made a comment (have to remember the Burners were THE Irons to play) that "m"man, there's going to be something new soon...I'm going to wait"..whoever it was (name slips my mind) was "Yeah...someting coming soon...has to be"...or similar.

   

  YJ pops in and says "You two are crazy, you think WGT is ever going to release better clubs than the Burners?..

   

  FFS...this YJ dude is pretty hip, right?..I mean, he's been aound for at least a year longer than me, had a zillionposts...;)...ya know?

   

  So, a few days later I spring for the Buners.

   

  About a week later...Taaa Daaaa...out come the R11's!!

   

  I'll never let him live that down...lol!!!!
