I like how some convey their thought in a calm and rational manner...

hey roge - heres how i generally putt for ur info :

im usually pretty quick at making putts - if its in a place ive been before or fairly obvious ill look once and hit it.

if its something ive not seen before, usually playing guilds :), ill go thru the motions.

    1.  figure out speed of putt - i use 1:1 for most things under 15feet (vfast - champ) which are flat/uphillish, little bit less for bigger distances depending on what speed of the green is; and i add maybe 2-3ft on those putts for slower greens( fast and below). for downhill putts depending on course and speed of  greens i generally subtract the decline from the length and take off 2-3 ft more, generally the faster the green the more u take off.

    2. figure out speed of dot movement and number of breaks to tackle, from front putting view.

    3. go reverse view to confirm front view calcs.

    4. if need be use chip view to re confirm both front and back views, esp for those weird putts that breaks opposite of what u see on both views.

    5. now generally knowing the area to misding and knowing the speed needed pull mouse to designated speed and watch both dots on green and meter moving.

    6. fine tune while on the down swing and click on misding area - this bit i find important as it helps with timing. sometimes u can be sure its a 50% misding but when watching the dots on the downswing it can be apparent that its either just under or just over 50%, which is the difference between the ball  going in or going low. so basically u react by instinct reading those dots.

its hard to explain but ive tried - hope this explains why i need it.

making it an option seems the obvious choice i would think.

im trying to get used to this new way of putting - having mixed results lol

Thank you, nice to see a clear explanation of why this is so important to some of you.  I'm still amazed you can watch the dots, notice any speed difference, keep track of the meter and still click exactly when you want to in such a short space of time.

I agree 100% with this.  I think I said in one of my first posts on the subject that the user should be able to decide whether to have the dots stop or not.

As so often happens on forums personal feelings became more important than the subject matter though.

yea a choice would have been good but what can u do - wgts way of just implementing things we got no idea about and great timing just before the open too lol

trying to get used to it but its not easy - kinda like removing chipview from u fellas lol

I fully understand the reasoning behind the green dot freeze. WGT have identified a problem and dealt with it.

BUT! Surely it would be better to add as an option, like graphics settings, flag animations, camera pans and flash quality.

Not everyone is affected by moving dots causing meter stutter. I'd bet that a vast majority of us don't.

What we DO like is what we're used to. Not only that making an early or late click on the meter deliberately because you realise you got it wrong in the first place makes the game more real, but also because countless games on countless platforms have adhered to the moving grid.

This is a sad thing. To remove functionality because of the few that have a problem.

Make it an option rather than enforcing something that could become very unpopular very easily.

exactly right there - ive also noticed the meter is still the same for me post-update. still suffer the odd squirter/stutter/charles barkeley type swing kinda deal here.

personally havent seen an improvement as my meter was already quite stable apart from these random things happening.

i run asc and game booster together to get a smooth meter and even those cant deal with charles.

100% with Tom here.  The pace of the dots helps me judge where and by how far to misding to account for the break.

Please give us the option, a simple on/off toggle.  And while you're at it, a toggle for the caddie.

I'm missing the dot movement, too.

Sad thing is, the equivalent of the freezing has been in the system before:
    Option Grid OFF.

Thus, they might have turned it off for ev1 and issued a warning for those who want it, "dangerous to your healthsmooth meter".

I hope that they are investigating the consequences and eventually come to a better solution, AND TALK ABOUT IT!
