After an exchange of messages with MM, I finally realized what was throwing me off. My method has been to look at the putt from front then back, then set the aim marker according to break, and then putt using the rear view.
When it comes time to execute the stroke, I look at the meter to dial in the proper amount of power then click early, on time, or late, according to how much break I've read.
It was the initial shock seeing the dots disappear at the beginning of the stroke that threw me off, but after one round I'm used to it, and now realize it was just my eyes seeing (or not seeing, actually) something they had become accustomed to.
Not saying this is the case for everyone, but I've found the adjustment fairly easy now. It was really just a matter of something interrupting a routine to which I had become accustomed.
