No plural, "gorse" or ulex, en francais Ajonc. Quite pervasive on STA - like in the front of this painting.
It's certainly golfer's most grim botanic enemy in Scotland, beating heathland and daisies. In mainland Europe, it's replaced by clover and dandelion.
In WGTland, it comes into play on hole 4 (replay) - right hand side where the FW becomes narrow, some 230 yds from the front tees (single hole play) and hole 9 on the left, just before the green. But, it has no name - the ball simply disappears.
