Bad luck Mainz & Konrad! You would certainly need your A game against those two. Congratulations Rock and Icon on a fine win for Team USA, extending their lead to 7-3.

Next up, it looks like our other German pair, the Teutonic Two (of johehejo and FairwayRuepel68), are heading out right now against Wes and Fred.

    -----------------

Also, we're fast approaching scheduling for the singles series, which could start Wednesday after the last Foursomes match.

If you have any schedule changes or special availability notes (for the period Wed 10/1-Mon 10/13) I should know about, please PM me or post here in the thread. Thanks!

No miracle here, johehejo and Rupuel played an awesome game. I'd say 6 or 7 birdies out of 8 holes played. We went down on the 16th after Wes played smartly a safe 2nd shot on the green when jehehejo found the right fairway bunker on his tee shot. Luckily, the sand was hard sand 15-20% out there. Rupuel who just didn't miss a single shot (NOT ONE!) could manage to leave his pard up hill 4 yds straight to the hole. Then I missed 2 putts on 16th and 17th, dinged but somehow I couldn't drain.

My bad p :( Great match from our opponents and anyway, very pleasant time with all of you.

    devonnnnn:

9 holes of 4 ball took us almost a hour and a half. 3 Hours for one match seems like a long time

1.5 hours for the fourball is reasonably fast. I played a practice round with fredsf, Wesdogg75 and KyRock75 and it took just over 1.5 hours and I felt we played rather fast. At least faster than if we were really worried about my score.

3-4hours for 1 round/sitting is way too much to expect 4 player to arrange. Only chance is if you played two 9 hole seperately, but then it would take twice as long to arrange the 2 rounds to be completed probably.

Good effort fredsf and Wesdogg75, glad to see you two gave one of the ROW's better teams a challenge. Now get ready for the singles on all 18 holes.

    Go USA

3-4 hours is way outta the realm of possibility.  We have played 4 players for 18 holes in way less than that and with some really good scores too. Usually we come in at a lil over 2 hrs and thats w/ one player being notoriously slow (don't kill me sir).

I can be more available during the morning hours thru the week for the singles matches.  Could start a match between the times of 9 and 10:30 am my time. As long as i am finished by noon or lil after i can make it to work for my schedule.

    Rock

Please know I wasn't trying to set off an argument about the whole 9/18 holes thing... !

    Corwyn:
So, do neither of you feel that it would end up significantly shorter with a 45 second clock instead of 90 seconds... ?

... and I'm certainly not advocating for games that last much longer than about 2 hrs...

... but I am genuinely curious as to whether we could get to an 18 hole match in approx 2 hrs by reducing the timer to 45 or 60 seconds,

and whether people feel that a once or twice a year tournament such as this, which has involved lengthy qualifying etc., is worth setting aside more time for as a special occasion.

So Far it looks as though USA are exacting some revenge for the real Ryder Cup.  The singles will hopefully provide richer pickings for ROW.

On the whole 9/18 argument.   I'd have to chime in that it has been extremely difficult with the time zone differences to get 4 players together at the same time.   If the games were 18 holes, I feel it would be near impossible to pull off.

I'm usually a quick player, but on UEL games,  i'd feel I was rushing my shots with a 45 sec timer.    I also like some friendly chat with my partner and opponents,  and feel this would be curtailed somewhat.

It's the same for both teams, it's just that at the moment the USA teams have generally started better than the ROW teams.

Having really good scores definitely shortens the rounds, maybe that was my problem with that practice, and scoring well enough. With UEL I can take easy 60 seconds to get comfortable with approach shots. Driving and putting is not different from flat lie. However if in UEL you miss the green, those short game shots take so thinking to recover.

Also my timing on that practice round started when I first sat down to play our match. So that time included setup and invites and waiting for everyone to connect and introductions and going to the tee, therefore 18 holes would not double the time.

Hopefully I'm not notoriously slow, but I do know there are some shots I will use most of the 90 seconds in UEL games.
