I'm fairly new to the game and overall think it's a fantastic game. Some things that need upgrading is the distance consistency. The fairway approach shots are about as accurate as possible but when your in the rough or sand it isn't. I understand if I am 50 yards away in the rough and I have a 20% cover of the ball it will take 60 yards to get to the green but I still leave about 15 yards short. Same with the sand.

The fairways do this when there is a bunker protecting the hole.

Lastly, when you putt the ball from OFF the green it does not count as a putt in the stats.

Once these get fixed this game can be great.

It would be too easy if there was a calculation for every ball position. I wouldn't want it made easier.

See Garys site - you are new.

Play, learn, and upgrade in a good while after checking for advice.

    Sinkman,

you have Starter equipment of low quality. Overall, their low trajectory makes shots "over something" and uphill difficult. In particular, reduced power on approaches results in inconsistent behaviour.

You might want to practice to learn the details, and change clubs at some point to see how great this game is.

I know if you putt from the fringe and the ball goes in then it's counted in your stats as a 'holed approach shot'. Approx. 80 of my shots (50% of my holed approaches) were shots from the fringe.

    ps

IMHO there seems to be consistency to the power and methods used to hit from the sand, rough, etc. But it involves many factors of spin, ball & club brands, elevation, green's slope, etc. and in addition the bonus of individual idiosyncrasies of the hole and course.

Keeping notes is a key to deciphering what will work best, but I find it to be an intricate challenge.

Hey Sink....All of the above insights are valid...over time, we hear from the new player a desire to play for free, as is advertised. Not that you do, but if you do intend to linger on the "cheap" nothing will be different for you other than getting real good at scoring with constant "inconsistancy". Buy the best upgrades you can, clubs & balls, and the consistancy you seek will be yours. The "potential" to play will be in your hands. The potential to play super good will be up to you. ~ SP ~

All advice and responses are greatly appreciated. The putting stat should still be fixed with a perfect example of having to settle for a 70 with a two putt  from off the green that should have been a one putt.

I do find it weird how I can be 110 out in the rough and take a 130 shot and only hit it 80 yards. Maybe your right and it is just an equipment/practice thing.

I think that the use of the putter from off the green will indeed register on the scorecard as  a putt on that hole but will not be counted as such as you look at the total of statistics when the round is finished...I think.

As with the issues with the free clubs, consider it a bit like playing a real round of golf with a rental set of low end, "who cares' clubs...and using them at the top notch courses we have here....you would need to have your head examined to do so.

There is no consistency in the WGT program...the more you play on here I guess the more you learn the "hacks"....consistency in the program sucks hind teat

    Unrelated:

Sinkman is long gone but I appreciate the memory of two of the finest Ladies in the game: Courteney an Lizzy! You may live long and prosperous and gaily wherever you are!

No pun intended @HaireWolf1: Learn to love the game or carry on - it won't change for you.
