Actually your data isn't safe at your house, especially on a wireless network (search "man in the middle hack"), a kiddie hacker can get your info....
nothing is "completely" safe on the internet, it is a 100 times safer now, but still vulnerable...there are things you can do to make it less likely to happen on your end that have been mentioned here...but nothing you can do about a business getting targeted by hackers...
"I had my info removed from WGT". well big deal! If you think a site has been hacked what good does that do, they already have it! Calling the CC company and have the account number changed is the only effective thing to do, and just as easy!
My sister-in-law had her identity stolen, she didn't do anything wrong according to her, just went to a coffee shop with wi-fi every morning with her laptop for coffee while she shopped, paid bills, and surfed the net....
It is Chistmas shopping season folks, a lot of store will give you a discount if you apply for a CC(no store cards), Sears and K-Mart cards are actually Mastercards, others are different types...they give you a card with a minimum balance, use that for internet purchases and limit your exposure...no money tied up like pre-paid cards, no fees like other payment options....you don't use it you don't pay.
Use the Chase(8,800 credits) and Discover(1800 credits I think) links here, apply, get their card, if the limit is high use their website to lower it if ya don't want it and use it here...
