Actually your data isn't safe at your house, especially on a wireless network (search "man in the middle hack"), a kiddie hacker can get your info....

nothing is "completely" safe on the internet, it is a 100 times safer now, but still vulnerable...there are things you can do to make it less likely to happen on your end that have been mentioned here...but nothing you can do about a business getting targeted by hackers...

"I had my info removed from WGT". well big deal! If you think a site has been hacked what good does that do, they already have it! Calling the CC company and have the account number changed is the only effective thing to do, and just as easy!

My sister-in-law had her identity stolen, she didn't do anything wrong according to her, just went to a coffee shop with wi-fi every morning with her laptop for coffee while she shopped, paid bills, and surfed the net....

It is Chistmas shopping season folks, a lot of store will give you a discount if you apply for a CC(no store cards), Sears and K-Mart cards are actually Mastercards, others are different types...they give you a card with a minimum balance, use that for internet purchases and limit your exposure...no money tied up like pre-paid cards, no fees like other payment options....you don't use it you don't pay.

Use the Chase(8,800 credits) and Discover(1800 credits I think) links here, apply, get their card, if the limit is high use their website to lower it if ya don't want it and use it here...

A simple check in Google by WGT would have put them on their guard against SidekickTv.  Though I doubt that WGT are interested enough.  It took me less than a minute.

Get the lead out WGT, keep the customers satisfied, or lose them.

Google SidekickTv and choose your Ripoff Report complaint about  them.

SideKick tv Atlanta Georgia the caller said I could watch tv from laptop would get a pac 1115848

This is probably old news, but maybe some of the newer members here might read this.   Don't fall for these "Try Before You Buy" offers in the 'Earn Free Credits'  section of the website.

I didn't agree to anything and was stung for €39.99.   Had to block them through the bank and apply for a new card.  Homer Simpson wouldn't have fallen for that one. Lesson learned the hard way.

The 'unsubscribe' button on the shysters email  doesn't work and there doesn't seem to be an opt out option on their website..

    Way fuckin more is right!

RabbitTv below,  (it's in credit offers now on WGT), is almost identical. The second last sentences marked *** is where you can get stung.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's connected to SidekickTV.   I Googled RabbitTV and the third post asks: Is RabbitTV a scam?

I use 'Paypal' for all Online transactions.

One thing is a bit scary and that's the 'Tap'  credit/debit cards.  $100 max, so if you buy anything under that, you just have to Tap the card on the machine...  no pins or signature.

So if you get you CC pinched,  then they can make 100's of transactions getting stuff below $100. (until you get the card Stopped)

The other thing is what 'Apple' is bringing out,  I think that might be even more scary...lol

hehe, speaking of hacks - check the hack leading the wk 46 multi round!

now that's some financial hackin :)

on topic - i've been compromised several times - always been from internet charges of unknown origin - I'm writing more checks than ever in past 5 years and retailers have no idea what do do with them any more lol.   don't like having all that info on checks that retailers require and don't like even more that they think they can refuse them.  I'm sure they can - but as the line grows behind me as the teller waits for a manger to come to my checkout isle - they tend to get nervous -

cash cash cash - the future :)

    chrisironsbones:

PR Stevenson, no mater what you say at times, some people will back WGT and never ever want to see any bad word said against them. Even when every one else is complaining about a particular issue, these said players will never ever put fault at WGT door.  Even if the majority can see issues they will defend WGT regardless.  Why ?  I don't know.  Do they think they might receive a golden putter for all their WGT defending.

I know what you mean Chris. I'm not so vomit-inducingly sycophantic that I feel the need to always defend WGT. I think it's out of some misguided sense of loyalty or the feeling that by always defending WGT that WGT will consider them 'one of their own'. As for me, I think I'll pass on the WGT orgy.

There are two extremes though and while on one end you have the suck ups on the other you have the haters, who just criticize WGT at every turn and do nothing but complain. These types can also be a headache.

I think the best is when people are more objective. It's sometimes hard to get that balance right but I hope my post's will be seen this way and not just as complaining.

My post was originally intended to try and find out if financial records/data have gone missing but 6 pages on we're not any closer to finding out. Icon said not to his knowledge....well that's comforting.

As for the rest of the thread it seems to have been hijacked with most comments discussing security and transaction advice (which while helpful was not the purpose of the thread).

I can see whatever the truth of the matter is, it's likely to get buried a little deeper with every subsequent page until forgotten.

    Woodoworkery:
Also, what is the title of the thread.

Title was WGT hacked financial data? - A legitimate question but the sensitive souls at WGT thought that might get too much attention so they wanted something (in their words) 'less inflammatory'. So it was edited by WGT.

I followed their request and amended the title to Is our data safe? Still a legitimate question but one that doesn't highlight the specifics of what may or may not have occurred.

All I can say, and not wanting to derail the thread anymore that it has been, but; Given the partnerships WGT has entered into and by aligning themselves with companies who are known scams and known within the on-line security industry to be dumping malware, spyware, one is actually part of a bot-farm.

You have to be insane to load in a credit card number into the purchasing system here. I don't know what the database architecture looks like, obviously one would hope it's SQL, as there's no way MySql could handle the load here. As far as the server it's sitting on, really, doesn't really matter, if 'they' want it, 'they're' going to get it.

As far as details from WGT, they're not going to say anything on that matter. I mean c'mon, first off other than saying 'yes, all data is safe and secure', they're not required to start handing out details with respect to anything to do with data security. I'm sure any mod coming in here even remotely discussing data security would be fired instantly on the advice of the law firm WGT deals with.
