Is there a prize for most 3-putts while still finishing under par? I had three of 'em.
Took a few holes to get the hang of the yardages. I did hole a nice par save on 1, so the struggles didn't end up hurting much except failing to make birdie on two of the easier holes on the course.
After a silly 3-putt on 4 (missing the ding badly on the first putt and leaving a 5-foot putt with a hard break), my first really bad mistake was this putt on 7 that almost went off the green. I bounced back on the next hole with a near hole-in-one and converted the birdie putt, following with another nice tee shot on 9 (didn't save the replay) to 7 feet for another to get back to level.
But I hooked my hybrid on 10 and badly miscalculated the chip shot. Pro tip: starter clubs don't get spin on pitches. My 80% pitch of a 14-yard club with full backspin from a level lie rolled out to 13 yards when I needed 9. Another bogey.
...and another bounce-back, with this beauty that rolled up to 5 feet on the 11th to get back to par again.
By this time I was feeling a bit fatigued due to playing in late evening, and I missed a simple tap-in par on 13 and a nearly straight 6-footer for birdie on 14 because I was well late on the ding both times.
15 was a routine par (honestly don't even remember the hole's layout), then hit a 3-wood that covered the pin on 16 and one that took the slope on 17. Both left 12-footers for birdie which I managed to convert. Then I played safely to the back center on 18 and two-putted to finish at -1.
