Just play and find out what works best for you as you go. Life's too short to map clubs and use calculators and spreadsheets.

    Really ?

    Courteney ?

^^ Completely erroneous statement above if you want to hit with the best !!

TBH you a gold tee TL @ most...back to Beth babe ?

    Andy

Actually Andy, I'm pretty much the same way.  When I got my 97 Forged irons, I "mapped" for about 5 minutes.  I use no calculators, nor spreadsheets when I play.  I don't even have that little notepad you can buy from WGT.  I find Shot Pal and Putter Pal more obnoxious and distracting than beneficial.

Now, in my defense, I'm a big "numbers guy" and can do most any math in my head.  If that was not the case, I'd be tempted.

Of course, all this is moot since I'm not a TL.

Sorry, but time for me to wade in here!

It's all math in the end, be it on a real course or not, but definitely here in the WGT land it's all in the arithmetic!!!  In other words, calculators are not evil and neither are your own homemade lists and checklists.  Face it, even the best PGA Pros use'em!  Get in touch with reality!!!

Not at all moot. If you're good with numbers it goes a long way in this game. Knowing some basic geometry-HS type- is a big help, too. :-)

Player asked for help - it was suggested that knowing what his clubs should/could do was a good start -

Most of you are better players than I am and have played more rounds ----

Micheal & YJ, you have both posted about indexing/mapping your clubs.

I think that the OP was seriously looking for help - not BS "I pull it out of my britches" answers.

So - to pull this thread back to the OP question - what would you suggest?

hooray at last a player who finally understands what a post saying please help means. thank you very much Wheels 65 for your last post and to all who have made meaningful replies. By the way the last post was for my brother who at the moment have a comp with myself and we set up to our own set up not wgt what is actually happening is when he plays comps he is fine not much deviation from what it should be and to prove that he is currently on top of the leaderboard tour master for this months comp as vito115cdi and he is 14 under not bad but when we come to play our comps using the same methods he uses to get to 14 under to his frustration his shots are all going haywire in this i mean 5/6yds over the flag or 5/6 yards short now why is this happening?especially when he can hit a 14 under on wgt comps now instead of arguing amongst yourselves can someone please give us a remedy your help ould be gratefully received

I think you covered most of it wheels.

    IMO (all low crosswind):

Beth 10 - long irons from teen and fway.

    Beth 11 - Long irons check again, and also a grasp of short irons;

beth 12 - mid and short irons.

    Kiawah 1 check it all.

Then set up a low wind Beth B9 in your CC, and play that a few times with all the new yardages...Personally I like using spin so mine are mostly 100% power and different spin settings, but I do choke down power a fair bit too.   Some (and see the reasoning) so it all more with power less (sometimes no spin).

It's what you want out of the game, but I don't see how you can have "feel" without a good framework to work around.  Some holes just play differently too.

Depends what you want really.  Go and bang the crap out of Beth F9 all day in low winds then fine no calcs useful at all as almost do it blindfolded if 30s are all your you are after.  Want a solid framework to compete several places then some yards need to be put in (including wedge play and putting).

Also people with the most complicated calcs (can take a while) do not necessarily make the best players, far from it and some are plain lousy.  Simple math calcs that take a few seconds in your head, and a framework to allow "feel" lets you get to a v reasonable IMO.

I did. The first time I answered. Now Michael adds pertinent facts and I agree. Maybe the OP will get something out of that as it appears he's into the numbers part of this game simply because of what he asked.

And his question was answered. Mapping clubs takes 1 round of practice  play at most if you spend the time. I don't, I "index" on the fly as the info is fresh and constantly reinforced. Michael's comment was to the point and carries a lot of truth.

I suspect the OP will get a lot more good info from his post than just a survey of what others do. This is a numbers game.

LMAO...there is nothing wrong with NOT using calculators, wind/distance programs, charts, putter pals, but not something to be so proud of IMO...it is OK not to read the instructions on the new phones/TV's/ pc operating systems either, if you want to figure it out as you go, but why not read them and figure it out in much less the time and make sure your taking advantage of ALL the features...

seems a little foolish to me, nothing I'd boast about...other than a meter scale I don't use any tools either, ANYMORE, don't have to because those tools helped learn the proper clubs and power and "whatnot's" and "whatto's" , nothing wrong with them either, like reading the instructions...
