I actually played a few games yesterday, first time in a bit, and I concur with Mags, the dots were (or appeared) to be the same as before - except in chip mode where they showed less break (slower dots).

A week ago when I played OLY the dots were much slower and sure enough broke much more than indicated, but now I think it is pretty much the same as it was.

I am only a fraction of the player Fmags is, and I am probably guessing a lot of players are now second guessing the putts - including myself, whereas Fmags probably doesn't.

Confidence in golf, especially putting is crucial, whether real or virtual, and I would say after the recent problems, a lot of us have lost that confidence that anything under 6 foot is a gimmie. Perhaps not a bad thing!

    Great post by fmagnets!

    fmagnets:
I broke out the vids from before the changes, recreated some of the putts where there was a good opportunity to measure dot speed, and compared new with old.

Thank you sir!  You saved me a lot of time Mags, I was going to do the same thing with available videos.  I had even downloaded a stopwatch program.

    fmagnets:
Surprisingly, I have found that the putting view dots are moving at exactly the same speed as they were before.

    Good to know!

    fmagnets:
Chipping view is what most good players use to read their putts in fine detail,

Even Average (giving too much credit likely) players like me try to use chipping view.  I'm just not dialed in on the dots enough to notice the recent difference.

This game has gone to hell in a hand basket. I just played pinehurst ready go tournament and missed 3 consecutive putts from under 4 feet,  and im a TL with almost a 54 average so i know what im doing. The meter is wacked, the dots dont move properly, if you  miss the dinger by 1 notch the ball drifts almost 10 yds away from the pin (thanks to VEM), wind correlation is off, and i can go on. Very very very frustrating this past week, and i've seen no improvements during this time. Im contemplating just hanging up the clubs for the time being until WGT gets the game back to how it use to operate. F this! I've seen other TL's score way below their average aswell, so its not just me.

    Ianzzz:

Reading earlier in the thread I believe that FMagnets (who, lets be honest does know without doubt what he is on about) also said that they were different -

    fmagnets:

Yesterday, a good quick fix was to aim where the dots were saying, then double it. Today the old and new are starting to get a bit blurry.....

Well I've done what I should have done a few days ago, rather than playing less. I broke out the vids from before the changes, recreated some of the putts where there was a good opportunity to measure dot speed, and compared new with old. Surprisingly, I have found that the putting view dots are moving at exactly the same speed as they were before. Even on Merion where the difference seemed so stark when I posted earlier this week. IMO the reason that most so many players have become confused/disillusioned is because the chipping dots have become 20-25% slower than the putting dots. I checked, and they were exactly the same before the changes. Chipping view is what most good players use to read their putts in fine detail, so they are now being given conflicting ideas of speed from the two different views.

Icon has this info as of last night and will hopefully be able to act on it early next week.

I also checked that a putt that broke 1 grid box took the same time to travel to the hole as the putting dot took to travel the width of the grid box, from the aim point down to the hole. This is approximately as the physics should be.

Could you have done that 15 minutes earlier?  It would have saved me the trouble!  At least I can still offer an independent confirmation of your results.

I got the exact same speeds for the putting dots as I did in a recorded round last December on Bandon 10.  Timed the dots with a stopwatch. The putt behaved exactly the same when struck.

That's interesting about the chip view, will have to check that out.

The difference in dot speed between putt and chip views in the Android game is stark.  I wonder if they are trying to match things up, but going about it from the wrong direction.

So if the chipping view dots are returned to the same speed as the putting view dots, things should be back to normal?

I have a question ... can a mouse be used with an Android powered tablet?

Yes it can. Google it and you'll find many Bluetooth mice to choose from.

Haven't used one for WGT yet though, so can't say how that would perform, but I suspect way better than the touch screen.

That's interesting, hadn't noticed that, thanks fmags.
Chipping view is what i generally trust.

Perception has been mentioned, and that is certainly a factor also, i can think of a few putts where i over compensated on the high side because my brain says maybe the dots are slow.

To continue to play WGT, you'll have to. It won't be playable on Desktops/Laptops in a year. WGT is silently, and swiftly shifting to Mobile. The cost associated with trying to compete is not worth the gamble. I don't blame them at all, either. It makes perfect business sense. WGT will be the only Mobile golf game around...for a while, anyway.

All of these screwy things, bugs, "hotfixes", etc as of late, are just the programmers making the Mobile version better, and by tampering with it, they have no choice but to screw up the Desktop/Laptop version.

Ever since they asked for those "Mobile Beta testers"....the game has changed dramatically, for the worse. And, I will guarantee, right now, that the invite issues, green dots, and any other bug will NOT be fixed.

Any bugs or upgrades to do with the Mobile version will be "all hands on deck".

The people that own this company are not gamers, or nerds. They're tech-savvy, very smart, and rich businessmen. They know how to use other people's money to get rich and make those others rich. It is NOT about us at all.
