Chambers Bay, can't see the greens, am I alone???

  IMO it's also the best course thus far, and that was no easy thing to achieve.  It's very hard to replicate close to how hard these courses really play with the equipment we get  However this course you can't just stiff everything, and so some thought away from plain darts is best to shoot low.    

  I sure agree. It is beautiful to look at and truly fun to play. My home course was designed buy Trent Jones Sr and as I look and play Chambers I can notice that his son inherited some of father's suble traits. It should be interesting to indulge heavy wind when it shows up to take advantage of the slopes to see a clever result. I doubt that I qualify but that wouldn't be anything new. ;-} I love it all the same.

  This is a fun course to play but very frustrating.

  I would suggest that you make a lot of course notes, places were you miss 8 feet left so 35 feet away.   There are mounds and ridges on the greens that are sure 3 putts, you can't leave it up there.     There are alos backstops that can bring your ball back.   Check my replay on hole 8 where I missed left and long and it almost came back in for double eagle, stopped a few inches away.

  There are eagles out there, all 3 par fives and one par four is a ppotential eagle hole.  There are a lot of uphill approach shots that are tough on the par fours, you can hit a nice shot and end up 35 feet away.

  Managed to post a 57 in a round with 2 eagles and several missed putts.   I hope to get that down to 55 to make sure I'm in the mix again but it isn't easy to put those low numbers out there.     Put your best number up Lily and let's play in the real tournament.

  Well William, we all have a couple of months to get what we want. I must slow my play down a bit and think for a change. I am also trying to get more brain surgical with putting, which also isn't my favorite drink. But your play is strong and you did so well last year that I know you will be back in.  Lily

  Hit me up for a game Lily and we can put our course knowledge together and get some better notes.

  For everyone qualifying, this course has a number of spots that you just can't miss at.   For example hole #1, if you miss 6 feet long you can count on it going 25 feet before it stops, also one par 3 can't recall it right now, you miss 4 feet left and the ball will end up 35 feet left.    Lot of little issues like that and places to play from that can help your scoring.

  The greens are tough to see for sure, the 8th hole is virtually impossible to see from where you play your approach from, I've just taken to hitting it at the left side of the 'grass' and knowing it will feed back toward the hole even if it runs long.

  That's why I love this course so much, there are possibilities for great shots using lots of different shot types. I could imagine Trevino thrilling the crowds here with his inventiveness. The topography  (once learned) is going to give us all the chance to try out new ways of doing things. Most courses on here have 1 or 2 holes with quirks that can be used to advantage, Chambers is studded with them.

  Here's just one example of what I mean. I spotted this quirk of the 4th green from the bunker under the green.

  I took what I'd seen and practiced the approach for a few shots  Now this will be my shot of choice, get it right and it's an eagle every time...

  Great tip! And great drive!

   

  I am curious, however, as to how you can drive the ball 331yards in the first place to set up such a sweet approach shot for eagle?  I use a Callaway X Hot driver rated at 278yd and an upgraded ball but rarely can drive the ball that far unless downhill and with the wind at my back.

  Xenophobic bollox!! 

  Chambers plays like  proper Ayrshire links courses like Prestwick, Troon and Turnberry.
