    Corwyn:
I've been having some putting woes, and am still struggling with the short ones, but I had a stretch where long putts just kept pouring in during this round.

Corwyn, you can thank mmyers0 and myself (razza31 too) for showing you how to do it in our tio rc match.

BTW Great score, and bhoese too. Did anyone else break 70? Some guy I never heard of shot a 69   ;-)

    Corwyn:

After all, it's not often one gets to deny Mags a tournament win... and he still hasn't claimed a Tough-It-Out monthly crown. One day, Mags... one day!

Well you can't expect to have a chance to win if only 1 shot ahead of Andy.... :-)

    LMAO..

Many a true word spoken in jest :-)

Thanks Russ! Yes, you guys certainly did show me how it should be done.

Below are the details of my round... After missing good birdie chances first 3 holes I thought I'd blown it, but then got a real stretch of absurd luck sinking 21ft, 47ft, and 34ft putts in a row on #5-7. I was also lucky on #13 with a long one, and on #16 to get close with an approach from the rough. The birdie on #6 was truly absurd (worth looking at those replays)!

    Corwyn:
Full details tomorrow, after some sleep...

Card URL (also posted on previous page)

    #1 R : 16@200, short on 2nd 3yds and misread 9ft curler, so close  PAR

#2  R : 19@445 Nice wind! almost ding found good spot 6yds short L but just too high and hard on 17ft try  PAR

    #3 F : 18@1000 nice deliberate bounce-on shot to 2yds , but pulled easy 5ft putt, aargh  PAR

#4 R : 19@10 on but well short nice dinged 150scale putt but didn't break as expected from 32ft   PAR

#5  L : 13@ 830? overshot but lucky to stay on green 21ft away and just got lip-in with putt that always threatened to drop away  BIRDIE

#6  F : 17@1030 Tailwind not so helpful here with front pin; mishit came up short on 2nd and had no shot, tried to bounce on left but went far too close to water and got lucky then unlucky silly bounce off rocks that could have gone anywhere (!), then OMG made 47ft putt from fringe wow - somewhat unusual way to make  BIRDIE

#7 R : 14@1230 pulled tee shot badly, it made top level but miles away; however, sunk 34ft putt (and didn't deserve to, given slight push)  BIRDIE

#8 L : 17@1200 came up short trying roll round, poor putt from 18ft big curler   PAR

#9  L : 18@600 never in good place, got on with 170 but 7yds long, and not nearly enough break allowed with 25ft putt, had to make 3.7ft curler save PAR

#10  L : 17@145 thought I had tee shot dead on but came up way short into severe sidehill lie rough on a ding! pitch escape not too bad for distance but misjudged slope, was lucky to find a spot with fairly straight fast 9ft downhiller for a crucial save, phew  PAR

#11  L : 17@1200 Nice wind! 3w made it on but 11yds away great try from 33ft nearly came back enough  PAR

#12 L : 17@1200 3W tee shot to middle, nice dinged 2nd into heart of green no way to go for pin with that wind, very nice lag (super hard with that ridge) and made 2.6ft save PAR

#13 R : 13@1200 Nasty tailwind with right pin; dinged and cleared bunker (just) but still went 141 3yds long, but had aimed left in this case for safety and got the reward with a beauty 21ft curler  BIRDIE

#14 F : 18@900 nasty wind but got 2nd on with 180ding pin high miles away; slight push on 30ft try, but happy to make PAR

#15 L : 16@115 flirted with left rough off tee, wrong club with 2nd 170 97% flew through (maybe found downslope instead of anticipated uphill landing?), and then nearly off the green with impossible flop, close with 23ft par save try  but deserved to drop a shot after poor percentage play with approach BOGEY

#16 F : 15@1215, thought I could't reach rough or bunkers and messed up 2nd shot lay-up doh! finding right-side rough, but oh ya beauty! 3rd shot intentional try for bounce from left and came out perfect through fringe to 1ft  to 1.3ft BIRDIE

#17  L : 13@1030 3W drived, then dinged 160 to centre of green and stayed on low level, lag from 38ft went 5ft past, but made 5ft save PAR

#18 F : 14@700, played long and safely on with 2nd (more interested in getting the GIR than getting close, and wanted to take close part of lake more out of play); didn't allow enough break with birdie try but sunk 3.3ft putt for the 67 PAR

It is over! Sorry, I've been a wee bit busy this week, what with a real-life big project, and then the TIOUELRC@CB, and the exciting climax to the UEL Spring Tour and UEL Ryder Cup @ Chambers Bay Team Qualifications.

I hope to have basic leaderboard summation post up real soon, and then the Stats Results for special prizes probably on Monday.

    Thanks for your patience!

Wednesday at midnight saw the end of our latest Tough-It-Out monthly VT tourney...

Would anyone who still plans on submitting scorecards and stats please do so by 6am tomorrow WGT time (i.e. 24hrs from the time of this post), so I can figure out the special prize winners.

Our May winner @ Congressional was yours truly, Corwyn (notching his 3rd win of the year after Bandon in January and Kiawah in March). He was the only player in the field to shoot an aggregate of par, our benchmark target for the top players. It's interesting that level or 1-under par has now been the winning total for 3 of our events, and been the mark for the top 5 for the other 2 tourneys.

Corwyn was 2 shots clear of fmagnets in 2nd place on 144, with Andy (alcaucin) in 3rd one more back on 145. 4th spot was shared by Ben (bhoese) and Russ (ColumbusStorm) on 147.

Under-par rounds of the event were 67s by Ben and Corwyn in R2, 69 from fmagnets, and 70s from alcaucin and HIOsoon. Sad for our first-round leader Ponga74 who just missed out on a top 5 following her 73 with a 75 off the closer tees that may have included some water on #6, where she took 7.

It was also great to see several new players manage the rare TIO feat of shooting a par or under round: congrats to DJW2307 and the aforementioned HIOsoon and alcaucin.

Would our top 5 players please confirm/indicate here in the thread what sleeve they would like for their prize from Shoe? Thanks!

    LEADERBOARD PRIZES:

WGTdbloshoe very kindly offered a sleeve prize to each of the top 5 finishers on the final leaderboard. They are:

    1  Corwyn        TBC

2  fmagnets    lvl90 Black Nikes   CONFIRMED

3  alcaucin    Max Slow Meter Pro  TBC

    4  bhoese        lvl61 Nikes TBC

    4  ColumbusStorm  lvl81 Nikes   TBC

    ---------------------------

Also, I plan to work on the Stats spreadsheet tomorrow morning now (once all those pesky, month-end fancy club rounds are taken care of, lol!)

If you are hanging on to scorecards/stats ready to post, please do so by 6am WGT time tomorrow, Monday 6/1 (24hrs or so from the time of this post).

After then, I will call time, and finalize the special prize winners.

    Thanks, Corwyn

    -------------------------------------

Just an FYI: we have Pinehurst as our course for June (to tie in again with the official VT). Expected tourney dates are R1: Thu 6/11-Wed 6/17 | R2: Thu 6/18-Wed 6/24.

But in July, when we should be at St. Andrews, I'll have to postpone that event for two reasons: one, the VUSO with its 4 rounds back-to-back with 3 days each knocks out the first half of July, and two, I will myself be at St Andrews to see The Open as part of a long-awaited family trip home to Scotland for the rest of July and unable to connect/play while traveling.

My hope is to double-up two TIO VT events simultaneously in August, the postponed St Andrews one and one to go alongside the August official VT (currently expected to be a CCTH at Valhalla), to be held @ Oakmont/Merion (which are not otherwise in the official VT tour).

    You're welcome Russ!

FYI all: I have rapidly thrown together the stats spreadsheet, in draft form here.

Haven't had time yet to track down stats from video providers (e.g. fmagnets)... and I'm noticing certain obvious gaps:

alcaucin (presumably you don't still have the missing Putting stats from R1? - would have strong chance of most improved prize if you did!)

    federici74 - no R2 stats yet?

    ponga74 - missing R1 GIR & Ave.Distance to Pin

FluffyGreens - no R2 stats yet?

    akash1592 - no R2 stats yet?

kilcourse1975 - no R2 stats yet? You had an astonishing 2.6ft ave. distance to pin in R1, and would have great chance of that prize dependent on your R2 numbers.

Please post any missing cards/stats by 6am WGT time Mon 6/1 if you wish to be considered for special prizes.

    Thanks!
