It is a grand post of value. Over time, and by looking at 40-60 year old Golf, Golf Digest, and Golf World publications, all saved by my Father (God bless him), Myopia and it's glory should be a natural venue in the future. The yardage is a paltry 6,539 yards and I don't as yet know the property or it's ability to receive 'state of the art" expansion, which would be what? 7,000 to 10,000 added yards ? It is possible but doing so with the classy treatment it must demand is a question un-answerable with the quick look I have.
The Club opened in1882 and featured Fox Hunting, Polo, and golf and all three are still played. The club has always been private and is located in Hamilton, Mass. est.1638.
Myopia has hosted 4 US Opens; 1898,1901,1905, and 1908, then stopped, nothing since. Couldn't find a why? Yet....We know there is one.
The course designer is Herbert Leads, and Myopia has a slope of 120, but it seems to have it's harder moments...in the 1901 US Open, no body, not one mind you, was able to break 80 !!! In 4 days of play.
So it is easy to agree and stand with Mr. Smooth. If the Big Kahuna's at USGA are still holding hands with tradition, I must believe that Myopia Hunt Club cannot be overlooked with a straight face. ~ Lily ~
