For all you WGT gurus. What are your thoughts of the L94 Nike vs L96 Versa vs Max Control putters?

I can only speak for the 96 Versa but I will say it's the second best putter I ever used here. It has the most precision and balance you can get at that level and those attributes are the key to a good putter, IMO. Precision says it goes where you aim it and balance says the putt will hold the line better on longer putts.

The best is the 101 Nike.  :-)

Precision is nice - very nice.  More balance the better a putter can weight  a putt, and especially the case with scales deep over any distance.

Personal stuff, and all the premium putters are very good anyway.

Take a look at this months Virtual Pinehurst Championship (TL) and you'll see the #1 and #2 guy both use the Nike 94.  The Max Control is a fine putter (i've used it since available) but as soon as I reach 94 I'm getting the Nike.

I have never used the Nike L101, but really can't see there would be that much difference .

We are talking .2 difference in precision, and balance. Forgiveness in my thoughts is a big nothing so to me that has no weight in the comparison .

For the money the Versa (L96) is the putter, and the best buy

So 16,000 puttes after getting the Versa, and a slight improvement.

Previous putter was level 77 Nike, for a short time, mostly I was using the 'Beginner' putter.

I think the 0.02 improvement in % of 25 - 50 foot putts is significant as well as the % of 10 - 25 foot putts.

All I can say is that the level 96 versa putter helped to elevate my game to where I was able to make T/L. A previously unthinkable achievement.  I will be getting the level 101 putter, however as soon as I reach that level.  My hope is that the extra .5 forgiveness will help eliminate the many lip outs that I am plagued with lately.

Until you swing it, you'll never know. I have and can vouch for that increase in precision and balance because I have seen the difference it makes, not only in the 101 but in previous putters where both of those attributes have increased, i.e., the Ghost to Versa. The difference is subtle but has an impact on putts.

The really hard thing here is to find evidence of one putter being better than another.

As we all know , our golf varies from day to day, so a putt holed today may not be holed tomorrow, there is so little in it .

If I had 2 days of free rental right now, I am not sure I could convince myself that any one putter is better than another.

I wish I was wrong, but I don't believe so.

I think you are quite right, John. Putting's as personal as this game gets and it's up to the individual to figure out what works best for them. I've always said you don't buy putts with a new putter, just a different tool to make them with. Whatever works.  :-)

p.s., I think your improvement above is quite remarkable. To affect a change with so many putts is very hard and your doing so shows big improvement.
