The course - St Andrews.  The hole - 5th.  Have you noticed the rock in the middle of the fairway at about 255-260yds?  Thus:

Well, I was wondering if anyone has actually finished behind it (in WGT only of course)?  And what happened then?  Did the ball bounce backwards?  More importantly, did you break your club?

Might have to do some testing to try get behind said rock, then hit 10 bells out of the ball.  Gonna have to be damn good at aiming though.  Maybe a legend could do it.  There's an idea... comp to see whocan be the first to get ball behind said rock, with evidence.  Bragging rights only... and maybe an interview or cover story for The National WGT Enquirer.

" I guess the Old Course was at one time a field and these tombstones marked the boundaries of the field. He also said that on some of the markers one side has a G and the other side and R. The G stands for golf and the R for rabbits. Very interesting."

    Cheers,

Ok, it's a 'field marker', but I do think it is actually made of stone.  At least it looks like stone.  Maybe Craigswan who lives around the corner you confirm it for us some time.

Shame it goes through.  But why does it???  WGT knows when our balls go into rough, fescue, weeds, bunkers, water, the road, OOB, etc, etc, so why doesn't it know if it hits that 'rock'?  Would really have loved to have seen this comp take off!  Now are you 100% certain it goes through?

According to fanny my caddy it,s official description is a marker stone 219 yards from back tee .It was placed there many decades ago to mark the length of a good drive as wooden clubs were used then .She also informs me that in 1933 ben hogan shot an eagle here on his way to winning the open .

maybe it goes through because the stone is porous .

OMG!  Not that I didn't believe you, but here's the proof.  Real shame!  Was really looking forward to a broken club or two.

Nice one Crowester, I think I'm going to start making a few attempts to get right behind it.
