I missed a 3.5ft putt the other day. I think that qualifies for a sorry. ;)

I actually made a 3.5 foot putt da other day and said "sorry" to the other team...we Canucks just a polite bunch, I guess...lol

So true!  Let me add, etiquette is French for good manners.

If you weren't taught what good manners are, it can  be hard to express the correct etiquette.  Be polite, on point, and if using acronyms be simple and understood.

I don't often play Alternate shot as I have limited time each day to be on WGT, and I am trying hard to get my 500 (?) games in as a legend so I can advance to my next level in 4 or 5 years!

When I do sign up for an Alternate game I get excited to meet new players, hear new stories, learn new ways of getting the most out of the equipment, and myself.  It seems to be a total win on all levels for all the players.

Of course there is always the bent nail in the keg that can make it an un-enjoyable round, but they can be found any where, and normally can be dealt with.

My advise is to play them often and have fun!  Thats what WGT is here for.  My Nickle.

I think the Alts is the very best part of WGT, even at the expense of score ave., rated games, and EXP. I agree with most, "sorry" is verbotten, "fun" is what it's about, and quitting when losing is well, BS. I also agree about 'roughly' balancing teams- 2 Legends don't nee to be teamed up against 2 Masters, use your good sense, game creators....

    Anyone seen my hand wedge?

    Oh, beachy keen.

That wasn't a putt. It was a safari.

Dang. Forgot to pack a chainsaw.

Lipouts are worse than missing by a mile.

Nothing wrong with this hole that a bulldozer couldn't fix.

    for older folk

George, George, George of the jungle.

A/S is all about the fun of the game.

I don't use them myself. There's plenty of time to say things properly.

I agree...is it so hard to say "nice shot"?

    Lol, I've played with lazier folks, won't even give you a "ty"...just a "t"...mercy.

It's a truly riveting conversation when nobody uses more than 3 letters for anything the whole round.  I had someone yell at me once for an entire 9 for not responding to a 'gs' on the first hole (which was 4 yards away and was NOT good).  I'm not there to talk to you and make friends. I'm not going to say thank you to you when I think it was a bad shot. To me, even 6 feet isn't a good shot if I stuck it on a sidehill.

I'm currently playing an alternate shot with a group of players that does not talk or respond whatsoever...and does not concede shots, even when they're 0.2ft away.

It is no fun at all.

I've run into that also...no idea why they don't stick to solo stroke. They obviously get no joy playing multi-player games.  I've actually brought that up to them during a game and they just do a lot of cussing and generally quit....whatever.

I've only recently started to play alternate shot, but I'm not sure what all the acronyms mean.

Also, what's the etiquette when someone hits a good shot? I see ns, np, nr (nice shot, putt, roll), but usually, I just don't write anything down. Also, people frequently put a p after the acronym.

Would it be poor etiquette to point out that none of these are actually 'acronyms'. I have this problem at work when people talk about acronyms -- say FBI, CIA, CPU & DVD     and I tell them these are not acronyms. They usually start arguing that they ARE!!!  Like I'm stupid if I've never heard of them.   They get so heated that they simply don't listen to the point.

Just because they are made up of the initials of all the words in order - does not make it an acronym. It is only an acronym - if the initials make up a word that is then used in normal conversation.

So LASER, SCUBA, ASCII, & BASIC are all examples of acronyms. You say them as a word.

You don't try to say FBI as a word --- you say the 3 letters. So it is an initialism, not an acronym.

I see so many texts with an  "Acronyms" list, and 90% of them are simply not acronyms.

I'll get down off my Nerdy Soap Box now.
