    Round 2 68

My best TIO round by far.

Congratulations Mags, on another very worthy Tough-It-Out win, an impressive follow-up to last month's victory at Cabo.

The tourney ended last night, with several challengers coming close but not able to find enough birdies to catch Mags the front-runner, who is surely without doubt the most outstanding player on WGT.

A forum thread a little while ago asked the question who was the best player here, but no-one mentioned versatility. None of the other top players mentioned in that thread demonstrate the same level of skill at different forms of the game, whereas Mags has mastered Uneven Lies, and play with Starters as well as dominating the VT placings and earnings lists in the flat-lie game.

    ----------------------------------

    Here's the TIO @ Whistler wrap-up:

I believe I've captured all the club proof/card/stat submissions onto the Special Prizes Stats spreadsheet

Please check to make sure there are no mistakes or omissions. You have until midnight Sunday 1/24 to submit any late cards/screenshots and/or correct errors on the sheets.

As it stands, I see the following prize-winners:

    -----------------------

    LEADERBOARD PRIZES:

A sleeve (sent by WGT) goes to each of the top 5 verified finishers on the final leaderboard (i.e. those who provided club proof for both rounds). They are: fmagnets, CorwynBunkerBuzzer, buey1950 and tied 5th: StrollinAlong, ColumbusStorm, OleFernando.

    -----------------------

    SPECIAL PRIZES:

These were the sponsored prizes (fuller report and wrap-up will follow next week). The winners are noted below and their results are shown in the Stats Spreadsheet for the tourney:

Note: these may change based on any late entries!

    1) Highest overall % of GIR  (tiebreaker: Ave Distance to Pin)    SPONSORED: Corwyn   WINNERS: BunkerBuzzer, fmagnets, StrollinAlong all tied with 28 greens hit in regulation (spreadsheet rounding up shows fractionally different results of 77.5-78%). Because their Ave. Distance to the Pin totals were also unbelievably close (separated by 0.25ft) I am going to award all 3 a sleeve!

    2) Closest Ave. Distance to the Hole              SPONSORED: Corwyn   WINNER: DaniUnchained is the front-runner with 12.8ft and is probably uncatchable.

    8) Most 1-Putt Saves (as determined by scorecard)   SPONSORED: Corwyn   WINNER: razza31 is the front-runner & almost certain winner with 8 (including a stunning 6 in R2)

    7) Most Number of Birdies or Better    SPONSORED: fmagnets   WINNER: Corwyn is the certain winner with 11, just edging out five players with 10 (fmagnets, BunkerBuzzer, buey1950, StrolinAlong, DaniUnchained)

I am also going to add bonus sleeves for our regular putting prizes which did not get sponsors earlier:

    3) Greatest overall total distance made putts      SPONSORED: Corwyn   WINNER:  HIOSoon with 178.05 is the front-runner (I confess I'm sponsoring this prize in part to reward Paul for truly toughing-it-out after posting a 9 on the card in R1!)

    4) Longest putt made      SPONSORED: Corwyn   WINNER: AdamK70 is the front-runner with a 35.4ft effort in R2

The late entries that could come in that might affect Stats prizes are from the following finishers: Jerm65, Wesdogg75, CJMolander, and Zayante.

If prize-winners could also please post their desired sleeve(s), that would be great. Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words Corwyn. I'm looking forward to seeing your master spreadsheet for the whole 14 months, and expect to see you as the top TIOer by quite a margin!

Well done to all the finishers, and huge thanks to Corywn for a tricky season's effort handled with fairness and diligence.

Nike Blacks from Shoe for me please. Corwyn, as you and I are swapping sleeves we can call it quits (unless you want to try the Nike Blacks with vapour trails?).

Is the -3 a TIO personal-best for you too?

    by a long chalk !  :-)

Tru courses make for good TIO tests, shame they may be going.

Black max pro please Corwyn and thanks to all involved.

    Corwyn:

Bad luck on those first 4 holes with the lip-outs. If just 2 of those had fallen, you might have had the tiebreak lead over Mags.

No, would have needed more than that ;-)

Once is enough, I'm not greedy ;-)

As you've already called the winner and I don't especially need more balls, I'm not complaining. But just for the record, is my 70-footer from the fringe not a qualifying putt or did I just need to point it out more clearly in my post?

Sorry mm, it has to be one that shows up in the stats. Otherwise it could be from any round, at any time.

I wish fringe putts did count. I've never understood why they're excluded from the stats. Is that something that the PGA Tour does with its statistics?

For what it's worth, I did notice the putt in your post, and enjoyed seeing the replay. Must have felt good to have that one drop on such a tough hole!
