I look forward to seeing the changes reverted and appreciate the fact that WGt has listened to it's customers. As others have said the old system was fine.
If you do keep it for the few instances you mention the brightness will still have to be toned down.
Other alternatives for celebrating special shots (and hitting a fairway or making par don't constitute special shots) you could use improved audience clapping etc or even a toned down multi-colour fireworks type burst that wouldn't burn the old retinas the way that glaring white flash did.
So there are other possibilities (sound effects included) that you could develop to accomplish the same type of thing in a less distracting manner while still accomplishing your goal of highlighting great, not good, shots.
