Yes this has been a long road being an owner, Money does play a big part of running a CC. The satisfaction of friendship is more than that.

    Thanks CE. Well said.

I took over ownership of our (note: "our," not "my") club when the founder had to step down due to time restraints back in January. It's a middle of the pack (Level 8) club, and we're slowly but steadily getting more participation and a larger percentage of active members. Yes, it's a bit of work, but it's been a great experience.

    roddy1234:

While I don't agree with your apparent line in the sand regarding size, our little club is currently in the top 30, so I too appreciate your kind words.

But I do hope you don't go down the "elite" road; I'm sure there are many club owners with 20-30-40 members who have the same woes and face the same challenges as the owners of more established clubs. Discounting their views would seem rather elitist and callous when all owners face the same problems ...unless of course there is more to it than that?

    Onwards and upwards,

    Roddy

The only reason I ask the question is that your original post here appears to be a rather truncated version of the messages I have seen exchanged between your good self (Casey) and a number of the other "usual suspects"? (Fatty501, bubbsboy etc)

That version had the makings of an agenda, yet it appears hidden now?

Size, and position on the leader board appeared to be quite important, as did a number of aims, including sticking together and providing a united front.

It certainly appears to be a group "by invitation only", as you have been quite selective about whose walls have been graced with your missive. Either way, it seems like a campaign; even the way one of them ended (Be the change) made me chuckle.

If it's here to do good, for all, then I embrace it. If it's purpose is to good for "some", then I think you should be a little more upfront with your motivations.

    Just a thought.

    Roddy

If it wasn't for the CC and the social side of the game that comes with it, I would have left long ago and I expect many others are in the same boat.  I certainly didn't realise the effort needed to run a CC until I took my turn in the hot seat.  Thankfully Bubbs is a natural at this sort of thing :).

We relaunched with a new website in March last year and have evolved into quite a nice little community.  We didn't want to rush out and boost the numbers but rather waited for people to come to us.  We hoped that people would like what they saw and passed the word around.  It can be time consuming to run and we are lucky to have a number of members happy to help keep the ship steady.  We have forged good relations with other CCs too through Inter CC comps.  I think the key is to keep the members involved, always asking their thoughts.

It's funny that you'll pretty much never meet the people you chat with each day online but they still become good friends.  The biggest tragedy is that WGT doesn't appreciate CCs as much as they really should do.

why not? lots of your members live in UK so why not organize the real meeting? In this case your CC would be next "19" hole :-)

I gave my club to another member. I got tired of members not giving a crap.

Thanks for the kind words CE, and I would also like to thank WGT for giving us the tools to make a Community with in the Community. I know we all have our complaints about the game, but for me seeing my members compete in our leagues and tournaments, seeing the banter in our forums helps me realize that is more than just a game!

I can't speak for everyone but I think most of us do it for our members, not for WGT or for our selves! And I want to make sure that I do not leave out the directors! I have some very dedicated directors and with out them I could not have the club that I have.

PT I agree with you, but that is part of the challenge of being a CC owner or director. We are good with making the most of what we have, and I am just thankful that they allow us to have the CC's!
