Any observing player will notice that virtual greens show no divot marks while fringes etc. do.
IRL, I don't expect any greenkeeper to object against playing by the rules which includes iron shots !from the correct green!
You would expect incorrectly then. When I was in college I was playing on the local city municipal course. On hole # 9 I was faced with a putt that because of the kidney shape of the green would have to be hit away from the hole. I opted to hit my wedge over the rough toward the hole instead. The greenskeeper saw me and kicked off of the course. He said "no one uses anything but a putter on my greens". Needless to say I was never allowed on that course again. And I made no divot.
