How is this a possible distance?

  The distance to hole on St Andy's #9 was 347 yards, my drive went 337 yards, but it said distance to hole is 5 yards, and i was left with a 5 yard (15 foot putt).

  What am i missing here, if my drive only went 337 yards, then i should be 10 yards from pin, not 5.

  Please can any one clarify what i'm missing, i'm confused......but it sure gives me a good chance for an eagle though in Ready Go.

  I would suspect the 347 is calculated from the middle of your tee box, throught the middle of the fairway and then to the pin, which is left side of a rather big green.  If you took the distance as-the-crow-flies, it would probably be measured at 342yds.

  Just my theory, based on distances of big dogleg holes which would be a lot shorter if measured in a straight line.
