No matter how near or far I am from a hole, I try to put some backspin on my ball to draw it back to the hole or to make it stop on the green and it never works! What am I doing wrong?

Good Day ,,  Its is not you ,,It is the starter club,s and  startes ball,s ..  Go to the pro shop and look at your clubs and balls ,,  Look at the dot,s for the spin .

For starters, you are using the WGT Starter balls.  They are by far the worst ball in the game.  There are many opinions out there on which ball performs the best.  The Tour GI-SD is probably the best ball for your experience level.  The Callaway Tour i(s) or Tour i(z) are the best there are.  I prefer the Tour i(z).

You're also using the WGT Beginner PW, SW, and LW for wedges.  They too are by far the worst in the game.  Court is still open on whether the Ping or Taylor Made wedges are the best.  The majority will say Taylor Made.  I use the Taylor Made Satin wedges.

As in real golf, a really good ball only gets you so much aside from less money in your wallet.  Good clubs contribute significantly to how the ball reacts when hit.  A good club and a good ball will garner you significantly better results.  In the end, the clubs and ball you choose is what works best for you.

You might try renting wedges first.  Find what works for you; you will notice a difference even with the Starter balls.  Once your content with your wedge selections then try different balls until you've got a combination you're happy with.

    Best of luck!

Spin is only going to happen if the ball is capable of doing it and is hit by a club that is capable of imparting it. That's what those dots under spin mean-more is better. Balls you see spinning a lot are the Callaways. Do not waste your credits on them, they will mess you up in a hurry. You need to learn where and when to use it first and then only judiciously. The S series balls give you the spin but until you have clubs that can make it happen it won't. GL

I completely disagree. Calloways will keep you in trouble, the GI-SD balls don't last, but with the right club combination the starter balls work just fine.

I just went back to them and look at my last rounds.

Yes they will, you just have to play a different game. The OP was trying to spin them with zero results and you must admit, that 34 at SA probably was a good round for your putting because I'm sure there weren't many gimmes-you can't stop the roll with them.  :-)

The free balls are the  WGT equivalent to the old Top Flites... Or should I say "Top Rocks"..

If you walk in the brush it's easy to find lots of Top Flites cause nobody bothers lookin for em...

LOL at that bear-so true. I refaced a kitchen recently and the house backed up to one of the better golf courses here where the back yard and the fairway ran together. The customer had one of those old fashioned apothecary candy dispensers on her counter and it was full of golf balls. When she learned I played golf she couldn't get the cooking bag out fast enough to fill up with balls to give  to me. There had to be 3 dozen in there at least so I was psyched thinking there might be a few Pro V1s in there. LOL, not a single one, a few Callaways , couple of Noodles and the rest were Top Flites.  :-D

I can see how you'd feel that way.  The Callaways take about a week to get used to as the characteristics are so different.  Experience is definitely a component when using them.  As a Legend though the Callaways are a phenomenal addition to the game.  In the end it comes down to personal preference.  If a player doesn't use what works best for them and goes with the advice of someone else that doesn't work the Callaways will be nothing but trouble.  Hence the "use what works best for you" statement.
