Ah, so it isn't just here where the sport is declining. Interesting to know.

I don't think most people would only use a wedge on the green Jim. Seems rather silly decision.

In response for the growing concern over a major issue, a group has been formed to combat the indecency. P.E.T.G, People for The Ethical Treatment of Greens has been formed to prevent the mutilitation and defamation of Green surfaces everywhere. By encouraging more use of the proper tools, a.k.a  The Putter, and verbally flogging the sinister utilization of any bladed club.

This behavior is contributing to the lack of sleep of greenskeepers everywhere, and tearing up the hallowed surfaces on which we roll. Please join us in the movement to end this unethical and harmful practice.                    Sincerely  P.E.T.G

    YankeeJim:

You constantly misinterpret what people say and then try to beat it to death over and over. You managed to turn an opinion into a personal insult and drove this thread right off a cliff with your misunderstanding.

    Give it up.

Quite a good self description of yours, stuck 71 years ago in history. The "Adolf" comparison is sooo old, it's not even annoying! *yearns*

Please note: I don't wear Lederhosen but I drive 200+ km/h on the Autobahn.

Bragging edit: ...in my own car ;)

I believe it. I run across a guy occasionally in AS that has his speedometer as an avatar. It says 234 mph!!  It's a little blurry but that's quite understandable.  :-D

p.s., And I thought I was hot stuff in HS with a car that went 107 in the 1/4. Pffft.   LOL

Are you sure about the mph? That would be incredibly high 374 km/h!

Alas, there's a crazy vid on youtube of a guy filming his bike's(!) speedometer while on the Autobahn. It goes up and down, and at first I thought that his top speed was 200 km/h (I'd sh*t in my pants at that speed on a bike). But then, in a low speed phase, it clearly showed 230 and rose to the next full hundred - 300 km/h (187 mph) with other cars around!

Usual speeds are 90 km/h for trucks and 120-140 for cars - what a speed difference!

I've seen a fair few bike videos on youtube where the speedometer has clearly been doctored, the speed shown and the rate scenery is passing by just don't match.

Probably at least an equal number of genuine ones though, there are some real nutters out there.

As far as bikers goes this guy takes my personal biscuit.  He's obviously highly skilled but it only takes one driver to not check their mirror and he's toast.

10 years ago there used to be 35 clubs in 100 km / 1.5 hour driving distance.

I'm jealous, we only have a dozen courses in my whole country and less than half are 18 hole ones. So they can afford to have completely unreasonable prices. If a person wants to play, he actually needs to complete a formal training course and pay a license, that costs around 500 euros (depending on offers). As for actually becoming a member of a club, there are joining fees, yearly membership fees and green fees. Not sure how much they are now, but a few years ago the joining fee for one of our better clubs (Bled) was 10000 euros and the yearly membership was 4000+. Tough for anyone to start playing, lol.

From the city you name (Bled) I see that you are in Slovenia. Certainly different and difficult conditions, as golf must have been deemed un-socialistic for 50(?) years. Greenfees may more aim to tourists than to locals(?)

Here, some practical and theoretic education called "Platzreife", similar to a driver's licence, will only cost slightly less, and, in addition to that, it's mandatory for any German to join a golf club (or golf course) to be given access to any full course. Membership used to be in the range that you describe 10+ years ago, but now it's down to 1,000 to 2,000 € p.a. and zero to 400 € entry fee. Budget offers are around 150 € p.a., viewed with suspicion by the traditional officials.

My rule of thumb is, "You can play golf here if you can afford 2,000 € p.a. (and have enough time to do it)!"
