Lets no confuse WGT with actual golf. The 2 are so far apart it doesn't matter. WGT count putts hit from the fringe as a putt, it's not a putt. Bunkers are pretty straight forward in the real game, in fact sometimes you even aim for them on purpose. In this game they are quite the challenge.
I cannot hit the chief off the deck in WGT. If I chip it onto a teeing ground in WGT the ball is tee'd up again. Nobody putts as good as you can on WGT. Or hits it this straight off the tee. The list goes on and on. Some rules are similar like using wedges on greens, if this is the best way to get it in the hole in the least amount of shots then it's fine. I'm yet to see anyone in this game who can use the wedge as well as Fmags can putt.
There were times as a short tempered youth I had to finish quite a few rounds putting with the belly of the sand iron, my putter had met it's demise on an earlier hole. It's not that bad of a way to putt and you get some nice topspin on your putts.
Why long pants? We wear long pants because it's not only in the tradition of the game but it's part of the dress code. Lot's of professions have dress codes and this is the PGA's when playing most Tournaments. I say most because here in Australia PGA members are allowed to wear shorts when playing in Pro-Ams. It looks terrible and unprofessional IMHO.
So don't be worried about breaking any of golfs unspoken rules or etiquette on WGT. It's not golf, it's just a computer simulation. Have fun and do whatever floats your boat people. :-)
Fairways and greens friends.
