The difference between Med/High and High is huge in irons, I'm surprised you were even playing those Med/High irons, as good as you are. The easiest way to reconcile the difference in play between the 2 models is to think of the shot arc. The Med/High one is flatter, will come in hotter and would need a lot of spin to control the rollout.

Conversely, High shots drop from a steeper angle, have less rollout so not so much spin is needed and because they're in the air longer, the wind is going to push the shot around more. The arc difference is the biggest reason you're seeing that bigger yardage drop when you choke down.

You're in a much better place with those new irons, just think a little differently on your approaches. Learn their carry and then use partial spin to control what happens after the shot lands.  :-)

BOUGHT THE LEVEL 80 NIKE VAPOR FLY IRONS A FEW WEEKS AGO AND THEY SUCK OUT LOUD!!!!! DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS ME AND THROW AWAY YOUR MONEY ON THESE IRONS. IF YOU DONT HIT THE DING EXACTLY YOUR SCREWED, ADD WIND AND ITS A DUMPSTER FIRE. TRUST ME JUST BUY BETTER BALLS YOU WILL THANK ME.

If you hit "Caps Lock" a second time the all-caps will go back down to lower-case again.

There is an important caveat here. YJ is an excellent player and his golf tips are spot on. The problem when he was my P, was that I didn't have the skill to execute what he was advising...and I have top clubs.

This doesn't apply so much to Ducati, as he is also a very good player. But for my fellow journeymen...remember that seeking good advice is half the equation. Executing the shot is the other half.

I've resigned myself to being average and just having fun...lol

Cheers Jim....exactly what I was getting at. Until I realised that the trajectory was having a greater effect than it did on the R11's, I disliked the new clubs...apparently like the O.P. Practice rounds in high wind conditions really helped me come to terms with them. Still learning, but, it wasn't the clubs.  I refer back to one of my IRL golf sayings...Right club/wrong player.

I believe the O.P. Was "reviewing" the L80 previously L85 Vapor fly's. Theses irons play exactly like the old L85 VR irons which I still use to this day except they have a slower meter. I played the new version for a short time but found the meter too slow for my liking.                I did try the higher level vapor fly's and they are indeed affected much more by the wind than the lower level version so I sold those too.                                                                  I did buy the now L95 Vapors and they are sweet but I haven't gotten them dialed in yet. Meanwhile I still have to pay the bills:).   Frank

The 71 Nike carries pretty close to the rated distances. Makes it easy to play by feel. The 3i would let you trade that HB for the 3rd CG wedge.

p.s., That PW might as well be a CG it's so good.  :-)

Yeah the Nike PWs are a genuine 4th wedge in your bag, any other set I've used in the past the PW was shite.

Thanks Jim, You are right that Vapor PW is a great club and I will soon (I think) be ditching the hybrid for a 3 wedge combo.

This is spot on and a great reminder. Well said.

But the beauty of having great clubs is that I'm able to hit just enough good shots to think... boy, if I could just string enough of those together, I could really score low.

In that sense, WGT is just like the real game. :-)
