St. Andrew's # 7 is quite playable with the short driver , but he'll have to be able to strike his long irons.  Play the fairway to the left <--- ,  leaves a longer approach ,  but he'll find a much nicer lie.

When I first stated playing the game, I used to play the hole a bit differently. I would hit my drive as usual and hope for the best. Obviously, I would rarely make it to the fairway. For my second shot, I would just hit the ball forward about 50 or 60 yards to get it into the fairway. That left me a fairly short approach with a wedge of some type.

Clearly, that took birdie out of the equation. But  it did a few things for me. First, it taught me the importance of course management and how to manage one's scoring expectations for a hole. And second, it helped me develop my wedge game.

While the results weren't remarkable (I parred the hole no more than half the time), it was a great learning experience.

Yes...We learned how to save very tough pars the hard way...With an occasional ,  well struck 3 or 4 iron and a look at birdie.

I play with a Champion who uses Starter Clubs and Balls as he's on a mission to score par or better on all the courses with those "weapons".  He's becoming a master of course management,

A friend of Hanswurst72 (TL MIA)?

He was the best Starter player that I know. See his blog for best scores!
