KenLengel2: Any advice?
Okay let me get the smart aleck comment out of the way first.
Best advice for putting? Hit it closer to the hole.
----------------------------
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I'll share the putting revelation that made me a better putter. (Note: better - still not that good.) I figured that the green dots were representative of a ball moving in the general direction of the slope. If that's the case then the length of time my putted ball would be moving toward the hole would be important.
So I spent most of a day on #1 Kiawah, putting back and forth, using a stopwatch (there are several computerized ones available.) I'd time various length putts. Pretty realistically on WGT's part is that more ground is covered in the first few seconds than the last few.
Of course, this is different on different green speeds, so I had to come back and time the stimpier speeds.
So the end result of this is to time the moving dots over the course of time that the putt will take. Aim that distance in the appropriate direction.
Many different speeds of dots on a single putt? I just time the average one.
Then it's on to uphill/downhill. Putting uphill, you have to strike with more power. Strangely, the effect on time to the hole isn't affected that much on these. BUT look out for downhillers. Striking more easily makes the putt take much longer to get to the hole, therefore, more break.
This all works pretty well out to 9 or 10 foot putts. Much longer than that, and just be happy with a two putt.
Good Luck. Hope this helps.
