Definitely have to agree with all the comments here. With the highest Raptures, first time on the course I dropped a 67. I do have to disagree with the person who said the front was easier. I made the turn at -1 and shot -3 the back 9. I can't wait to give it a run next week when I get my new driver and woods.
It seems to set up right now like it does for members. The rough was tough but manageable (I hit a 120' approach from first cut to 8' and a 80%-90% 38' out of heavy rough to 2'). The greens were a lot slower than I expected, so I left a couple putts short early. Didn't get wet at all, but the potential exists to lose some balls there. On 18, I ran my second right to the water's edge, the rough berm grabbing my ball and keeping it dry.
Yeah, qualifying is likely to be low low 60s, then they will raise the winds to gale force, turn the greens into glass, and you'll be lucky if there is a sub-60 in the Open. I look forward to playing it next week when I get my longer clubs, see if I can lower that 67 significantly.
Overall, massive kudos to WGT. The course is like I remember and expected. I think tee to green maybe the most challenging course we have. Greens? There is Oakmont, and then everywhere else.
