Is anybody else having problems with putting on Congressional?? Im a tour master so play on tournament greens all the time. On every other course I use the formula of distance + or - the elevation then 80 % ie putt is 15ft with a +5 elevation = 20ft then 80% so i putt it 16ft. It works for me on all courses but quite a few times on congressional the putts are coming up short.

I just had a putt of 6.8 ft no elevation and I hit it on tournament greens 7.5 ft on meter and dinged it.....0.5ft short ?? If I adjust my putting for the next green then my putt flies past.

    Any ideas???

No elevation change?  I'd guess it was either 0" up, or 0" down, and yes, there is definitely a difference....usually a foot's worth of speed between those two.

For instance, on tournament greens, if I have a putt of 6.8 ft that's 0" up, I'll hit it about 8ft, whereas that same putt 0" down, I'll hit about 7ft.

It also helps to extend your putting line past the flag and see if it changes from 0" up to 1" up (or to 0" down, etc.), and how far past the flag this occurs.  For the same putt mentioned above, if the elevation changed to 1" up at the 7.5ft mark, I'd add a foot and hit it about 9ft.

Also, I think the elevation might be rounded down(?).  In other words, 1.8" up will show as 1" up. ( I think? Icon can probably confirm that one...)  It could also be that the change is at the .5 mark.  (ie: 1.5" up = 2" up, and 1.49" up = 1" up)

But having said all that, Congressional's greens do seem a bit slower than one might expect for tournament speed.  Don't worry though....if you make it through qualifying and get to the Open, the putt you described above will go about 15ft....lol

Quite a few players have said to me that they think that . . . although it says tournament green, many of them are more like very fast greens. Just when you think you have the formula figured out, WGT throws a spanner in the works :)

I would say somewhere between VF and T. I know it sounds like splitting hairs but it does make a difference.

Exactly. Up hill putts and anything short of 10 play like VF. Anything downhill plays like TM Tournament.

Those greens are awesome too, btw. No strangeness for me so far with any of the breaks. They putt very true. I just wish I could putt them very true every time. : /

I think there is just a bigger difference between uphill and downhill putts. Uphill putts are a bit slower and down hill putts are about the same maybe even a little faster than some of the courses

exactly  ... love these greens ... even the severe breaks, I judge pretty well.

I've been here a year and still can't putt KIA.
